Re: False Allies

History is replete with instances of one ally breaking an alliance and attacking the other. As the game stands it takes two turns to break an alliance and then declare war, in my view this is plenty of warning. +100 Agree completely. I agree with this completely too. It happened in Greek times, thr...

Re: False Allies

It's an expected value thing. Cooperation is always better than a free for all for your chances. The only question is trust. If the latter question can be definitively answered in the positive then it's always in your interest to ally. Even if your chance to win remains under 50%. Unless, of course,...

Re: False Allies

I think it's a difficult question. I've played games where I consistently gain allies even if I regularly win. One of the reasons is that the alliance is based on both I will fight to death to protect you and also I won't betray you even if you're winning. Now when you have an ally like that, you're...

Re: False Allies

I think things generally work pretty well in terms of backstabbing getting its just desserts except at the beginning and end of a game. Generally when dealing with other people diplomatically in real life you're operating in a continuum where there will be long-term consequences for your behaviour, ...

Re: Arranging MP Game....Interested ?

No I had the same thought. I was just worried people would freak out when the message popped up. I just ignore it in most cases. I figure its unlikely anyone's actually bothering to mod the game to their advantage, and if they are there's not much I can do about it.

Re: Brilliant strategy by Rome AI

In my current game as Judea, Rome leads the world in legacy, and has for many turns. Rome has taken all of Italy, southern Germany, Illyria, Dalmatia, Dardania, and the surrounding areas, Epirus, Greece, Macedonia, Thracia, nearly all of Anatolia, and southern Gaul. They have not had a major war wi...

Re: Arranging MP Game....Interested ?

Those on steam may me be auto-patched without realising it, so it will probably be better just to message everyone to ignore the script warning when the patch comes out. Yeah I was thinking about this for our other game. Technically you can revert back to the previous version (usually) in the steam...

Re: Arranging MP Game....Interested ?

That's really interesting. I was really wondering whether the lower tier walls were worthwhile considering how easy it is to assault because the defenders don't get a general. I was going to check if there was some way to fix that, but that is clever solution. I will start doing that.

Re: Antigonids - Am I reading it right?

To be fair I did mention war weariness in the first paragraph. But it's easy to miss. What are the conditions for a war, do the picts not count. Usually I see players dowed on countries like Colchis or Bosporus, relatively close, but unlikely to attack you. Is there some other condition that has to ...

Re: Antigonids - Am I reading it right?

Anyway, I don't mean to sound like a balancing defeatist or something. We'll see how it goes in the more recent game and how players are able to manage it. I was just genuinely shocked when I realised how much better the other modifiers, starting leaders and ageing benefit was than I actually though...

Re: Antigonids - Am I reading it right?

Sorry, don't mean this to besmirch anyone who's played the antigonids and used the workaround, frankly I don't really mind if you do until they fix it as it would be almost impossible to regulate a house rule on this, and trying to would probably just start an online litigation process in the forum...

Antigonids - Am I reading it right?

So I was loading up multiple nations to get an idea of traits, costs, starting situations etc. for various countries before the diplomacy game. I don't think my knowledge of various nations is as good as others so this seemed like half-decent prep. Anyway, I went to check the Antigonids starting tra...

Re: Intent & Best Practices for Naval Transport/Escort/Supply

I think they changed it so two transport fleets no longer initiate a combat between each other (i.e. if neither side has any warships in the sea zone).

Re: How are we intended to use the turn log and what does each log button do?

Have the ledgers been made to allow for sorting by column, other than alphabetic? I think I recall trying to do this early on and it didn't work, and I don't think I've tried since. If it hasn't and it's not too difficult, this would be a great minor QoL feature. I'd just like to rank myself and oth...

Re: Field of Diplomacy: A New World Order

Is all diplomatic chat going to happen here or in game as well? Also the Pontic Kingdom offers an alliance to the noble people of Armenia. We true heirs to the great Achaemenid Empire should stand together, those red haired and bearded devils from Macedon have been making quite a fuss these past de...

Re: Field of Diplomacy: A New World Order

There are plenty of other matches out there if people want to build up for 50 turns before getting to work gutting each other. The purpose of the matches I put together is to stress test the diplomatic system with players competing in close quarters. There's - some - room for expansion, but no one,...

Re: Field of Diplomacy: A New World Order

If either consolidates well early - If - And even the most skilled players need more than a few turns to actually complete that consolidation. Neither the Arverni nor the Sarmations can realistically impact any of the major powers until after that consolidation is complete. The Iberians can physica...

Re: Field of Diplomacy: A New World Order

Alright you rotten band of miscreants. In the next few hours I will set up the game and choose a faction for myself. I'll consider the Arverni suggestion, but playing as Arabia and raiding 13obo is a tempting proposition. I'm not a huge fan of including the Arverni or Sarmatians - one of the key po...
