Re: AI behavior in 1.28

The opposite is true, most generals wore family heirlooms in battle and very visible armor to be recognized by friends and enemies, the big generals also had mons on their position so yes, the tactic was used and yes the head of a general was prized and rewarded by the winning daimyo so they TRULY w...

Re: AI behavior in 1.28

Yep I understand the problem of generals being easier targets for concentrated missile fire but that's exactly how it should be. The AI is no longer idle, it attacks in coordinated fashion and you can't target a general easily with a concentration of missiles on the same target because most enemy un...

AI behavior in 1.28

Alright, the AI is very solid now. At the Taisho level the match is even and so far 5-4 for me, the situation is VERY balanced (I only captured Osaka) and I can see a 1100 vs 1200pt clash coming in Gifu. At the Daimyo level, the AI will be looking for a higher advantage in points and that is a chall...

Re: Some more feedback

There is basically still an "annoyance" with the teppo "retreating". They retreat... to avoid autobreak (you said so)... but then they come back and as soon as they are in range they retreat again. This goes on in a loop. That unit is basically out of action. It won't fight but won't rout either (un...

Re: New Patch 1.28

We know from the number of casualties which unit is targeted but yea we could use some visual arrows to show from the firing unit... it's not important that they take a direction... just the square ahead of them will do. As of the 1.28... I'm back to Tenka Fubu and with the Taisho level it's a total...

Re: Some more feedback

I restarted the Tenka Fubu campaign instead and got trounced three times in a row at Daimyo level. I know it takes time to adapt again to the Oda/Takeda set which is very different from the Hojo set but I hadn't expected the AI to have improved this much and me having gone down so bad... in part it'...

Re: Considerations on the Genko Campaign (Japanese side)

And we managed to get a good fight in Niniwa, though the battered mongol army couldn't stand against mine, even with the help of a huge auxilliary force in support. I am on the offensive, right... then here's the AI coming to me, dug in on higher ground just behind the woods. I highlighted the front...

Re: Considerations on the Genko Campaign (Japanese side)

Well... considering how complex this thing is, by no mean easier than chess itself (with the added random factor of dice) I think the AI is doing a remarkable job and while its flaws have been identified, fixing them may take some time. To some extent things can be bettered but there exists no reall...

Re: Considerations on the Genko Campaign (Japanese side)

After a few attempts we did join battle finally and I won... an easy victory (43% - 6%). This is the ending situation. http://i.imgur.com/GBRoUP2.jpg The mongols regrouped combining all their armies but could not engage, I combined myself and when I attacked we joined a HUGE battle with excess of 25...

Re: Considerations on the Genko Campaign (Japanese side)

It is very important you find a way to teach the AI that when they are attacking a province they must attack aggressive with the melee units and when they are defending a province they must not come forward to meet the player in center-field but use missiles as the player advances. Technically I can...

Re: Considerations on the Tenka Fubu Campaign (Takeda Side)

I still told you that I would have lost half of the battles had I not had the lucky pursuer catch the enemy second line in flanks or back. It could have gone either way in these cases (lose the pursuer)... the problem seems more related to the AI not being aggressive enough in exploiting its numeric...

Re: Discussion on Battle of Pyongyang

You're out of luck I chose the Genko Campaign after the Tenka Fubu... before I can give you a tip on the Ming I'll have to get there but things in campaign are very different from the ones of the historical battles.

Considerations on the Genko Campaign (Japanese side)

The mongols seem quite strong and I've never faced their units before so I'll have to learn some new tactics... After an attempted engagement with a strategic retreat, I managed to have a skirmish in Kyoto with 100pts disadvantage (a severe numerical disadvantage) but I won it. It goes without sayin...

Re: Considerations on the Tenka Fubu Campaign (Takeda Side)

I know that but I think the best answer would be to teach the AI the things I wrote in this topic... needless to say, it's a huge task, I know, I really do, but maybe the simplicity of this system makes things easier both from the strategic campaign point of view and from the tactical battle point o...

Re: Considerations on the Tenka Fubu Campaign (Takeda Side)

Oda is on the run and his armies are shattered but the auxilliaries could be a problem. I chased from Gifu to Okazaki and gave battle.... 15.000 to 10.000 because I knew if I was defeated my second army would pick up. I won because, as usual, the AI left many troops behind and fought too slow. As a ...

Re: Cavalry evasion

And that's another very realistic thing... you basically don't even need to ask... just figure what would happen in real combat and the game does it. :)

As I said in the other thread... graphics are fancy but it's the substance that matters and this game has it.

Re: Some updates?

The UI and graphics are certainly not appealing but its mechanics are very intriguing... with some adjustments to the AI this might really be the perfect simulation of the japanese medieval warfare. Let's face it, with all its fancy graphics Shogun2 is just a clone of the previous total failures. Th...
