You think I'm negative, Nik.
No, I think you are positive about FoG:AM. However, what I am saying is that despite that you come across as negative and thus, manage to work against what you want. Have a think about how you present your message

Re: Scoring system for 2019 - Call for a vote...

(* Admittedly I'm not 100% sure on this. Based on the scores handed into Kevin and I at Britcon, both of us suspect that the core principle of the MeG system is that Alasdair Harley always scores 15, and everyone else gets allocated a random number between 0 and 15) FWIW the MeG scoring system is, ...

Re: Scoring system for 2019 - Call for a vote...

Nik Gaukroger has previously suggested: IMO (and lets face it its all anecdotal) the thing that puts people off comps the most is not losing to a more experienced player, or by how much they lose to them, but where they lose because the experienced payer is able to leverage a loophole or quirk of t...

Re: Command and Control - Divisions & Keils

Not sure I can point you at anything. The 1 base is really about getting the table top looking right - like period woodcuts. In reality gaps were usually much larger where they existed - however, this mechanism balanced look and feel with a playable way of doing things that wouldn't feel totally odd...

Re: Command and Control - General

You have it right. Command range also affects the commander's CMT bonus - as it needs an 8 to pass on 2 dice can be a material factor. Also bolstering troops in combat requires the commander to be with them. As the game progresses you have decisions to make as to where your commander goes to affect ...

Re: Tournaments 2019

Personally I would find just going to the same venue off putting - I like going to different venues where there are other games being played so as to catch up with people that I would not otherwise see. Additionally some venues have a show where things can be bought which adds. In respect of the pla...

Re: The new scoring system...

IMO all this talk of handicaps is pretty pointless as I don't believe that scoring systems impact to any material degree on the enjoyment of the vast majority of players. IMO (and lets face it its all anecdotal) the thing that puts people off comps the most is not losing to a more experienced player...

Re: The new scoring system...

But, IIRC, they are for just 12 months results and you cannot get a "full" ranking unless you do 6 (?) comps. So a good player who hasn't played recently, or plays occasionally, will be ranked low even if their last games were all victories.

Re: The new scoring system...

I suspect what Dave is getting at is that there aren't that many MeG players who jumped directly from FoG:AM to MeG, but there are quite a few who did play FoG:AM after moving from DBM but then moved onto FoW or something else and have now moved to MeG.

Re: The new scoring system...

Well to comment on Chris' question about people promoting v3 I'd have to say that Dave's posts are generally nice and positive about the game and are likely to encourage IMO. A bit different from Chris who always seems to be moaning about something to me - I'm sure he is trying to help but the wordi...

Safest is to leave a gap the same width as the evading unit :D
