Re: HF rout speed

When a unit of heavy foot routs does it go 3 ins if enemy are within 5 and 4 ins if outside 5. Yes - routers move normal move distances when no longer in contact with enemy. It seems a bit strange if you rout slower when the enemy are chasing you. Possibly - but its easy to imagine that you'd keep ...

Re: Polearms

We need to have more single competitions played at 800pts on a 6x4 table before we can make a judgement on this.
The BHGS Challenge will be entirely open - 800 AP on a 6 x 4 table. Last year's was similar but I don't recall a single Han Chinese - just lots and lots of Elephants.

Re: More Mixed Battlegroup Shenanigans

So, presumably, this would apply to melee as well with, in the case of Scandinavians, opponents facing an armoured swordsman instead of one with polearm? (Likely to be a much more common occurrence than at impact Yes - combat is always by file. What seems to be have been decided is that they count ...

Re: More Mixed Battlegroup Shenanigans

Does this mean Scandinavian mixed HF/MF get a minus for fighting HF in the open if they lose a HF front rank base and the gap is filled with a MF base? If so, is this effect immediate (as with 25% losses)? I think you may be confusing 2 distinct issues Chris. Page 114 of the rules - mixed HF & MG B...

Re: More Mixed Battlegroup Shenanigans

Sounds like some clarification is needed, Mr Shaw... I think the only point that is potentially unclear is the effect of terrain on the LB bases. Disorder is by base so I would presume the LB are not affected by uneven or rough as per the rules since this is not mentioned on page 112 of the army li...

Re: More Mixed Battlegroup Shenanigans

Hi Phil - Page 112 - Book 3 Army Lists: LB count as HF for all purposes - movement, combat and cohesion test unless the men-at arms bases have been removed at which point they are back to MF. Specific reference that they still count as MF for shooting to cover support shooting I guess. Seems reasona...

Re: Britcon 2019 - What would you like to do?

Thanks Dave. I've got loads of tape and it really won't take long. I'll add one section at the end of Friday and then another at Saturday lunch. The subsequent rounds see tapes removed so it should be dead easy.

Famous last words!

This is what I've sent to Tim: Any list from the new Book 1 up to 50AD. Any permitted Allied list within Book 2 up to 50AD. 800 AP. Variable table size – please set up 6' x 4' - we'll do the rest. Round 1 - 6' x 4' Round 2 - 5.5' x 4’ Round 3 - 5' x 4' Round 4 - 5' x 4' Round 5 - 5.5' x 4’ Round 6 -...

Re: Britcon 2019 - What would you like to do?

Hi Tim - we ran a poll in October which sorted most of this with 80% of respondents in favour of the proposed format. Speaking to many of the non-respondents at Warfare the overall message was 'can't be bothered be vote - we'll be there whatever you do' I'll contact you off forum with the full detai...

Re: Aztecs at Warfare - Game 4

Thanks Chad. And following on from the 'Internal Ally' thread - I went for this option because of the 4's of Elites. On balance an IC would have been a better choice.

Aztecs at Warfare - Game 3

Well the good match-ups couldn’t last forever could they? Game 3 saw the paint and feathers of the Aztecs against the clanking mass of armour that was the Medieval Swedish Army run by Dave Ruddock. IC / TC / 9 x 8 BGs of Avg armoured foot – front rank HF polearm / back rank MF XB sword / 1 x 6 LF Av...

Aztecs at Warfare - Game 1

The theme for this year’s Warfare was any army after 1066AD using 900 AP and presented an ideal opportunity for me to give my Aztecs a run out. I hoped to see quite a few longbow armies but I knew the Aztecs would struggle vs armoured and heavily armoured troops so the draw and match-ups would be al...
