1. Load a pad image via File > Add Pad Image 2. Place the terrain you need according to the pad image, so you use it to have an orientation as where to place coast lines, rives, specific terrain (if that is all shown on the pad image you use). Well, I use grey deployment hexes now and this works. Didn't figure out so far whether it depends indeed on axis/allies or attacker/defender settings, will see that later when I have scenarios where attacker/defender sides are reversed.

To give my two cents, I don't think difficulty is per se too much, but IMO in a given difficulty the balance of early war scenarios vs. later scenarios (judging from the vanilla campaign) is a tad off, with the latter being too easy, the first maybe a bit too painful. Yeah, thx :) In the meantime I also did some baby steps to create some jungle terrain myself. I made the base terrain gfx a tad more greenish and edited the "light forest" into a mix of stock gfx plus some custom plants. It's not that great IMO, but may serve as "working graphics" for now. Well, the game can't know what city names from whereever in the world you'd like to use. So for new cities, you need to edit the string in.

If you load map already done by someone there should be strings ready too.

Thx for those answers.

Meanwhile I did a little test for 3) and it seems to work. At least the additional overlay tiles showed up in the editor and could be placed on the map, didn't test if that would cause any trouble in-game so far. But it looks promising :)
