Re: Heavy Weapon anti-armour effect revamp

Maybe the Thracian armour could be reduced from Protected to Some-Armour. They do have shields but the Rhomphaia would have to be used two handed for best effect. With the system and values I suggested it would leave then at 2.5 POA disadvantage vs hoplites. >>Lightly-Protected(25) HW vs Protected(...

Re: Please don't make me come and get you.

There seems to be some confusion about the reason my post. It is not about losing to these tactics. I won both games shown (another reason to take me up on my offer). The issue is the severe annoyance of hunting down someone while racing the clock since it took half the game to get to contact. You a...

Re: Heavy Weapon anti-armour effect revamp

A reduction instead of cancellation could be good, though it might require changing some unit costs. I think one of the main items of importance is making sure that, in a clash between two equally armored units in which only one has heavy weapon, that that unit still gets some benefit from wielding...

Re: Please don't make me come and get you.

Hadn't realized that chased-off non-routed units can be counted for the percentage. Units that pursue their way off the map aren't I'm pretty sure. How does it work for the chased-off units exactly, do they counts towards the percentage until they return or do they only count if they are not return...

But all he has is massed archers and mobs, and a few Sparabara if I am correct. He surely can't confront your pikes in the open. Too suicidal. I don't really think it egregious.
An excuse that can't be applied to a tournament like the DL where players get to pick what they want.

Re: Moving through a ZOC

This might or might not achieve what you want. However, whether it would or not is largely beside the point. The real issue is whether I (as game designer) want to turn the game into even more of a game of geometry (and invisible but impenetrable force fields) rather than fighting than it is alread...

Re: Please don't make me come and get you.

You can't legislate against this behaviour as it is not a discreet action. A farce which is totally allowable under your rules . . . Make your mind up, Mike. How are those two statements in-congruent with each other??? Mike, I am in full agreement with your first example , but not on you second, fo...

Re: Please don't make me come and get you.

Another question is that how can we distinguish the behavior as cowardice or tactic? Heavy foot or cavalry in woods may sound cowardice and passive play, but maybe they are waiting for the right moment to rush out. E.g. One can place 7 squadrons of cavalry to a woods almost on the edge of the map. ...

Re: Arrows vs Armour: Agincourt Myth Busting

I have never felt comfortable with the mass of troops breaking ranks with a mad dash forward from 100 meters concept. That is just Hollywood/TV. It relates in no way to historical battle tactics. (Any more than the ludicrous testudo-like representation of shieldwalls in Last Kingdom). Sadly the med...

Re: medium spears cost the same as hoplites?

Point for point, medium foot scales much better the higher up the quality ladder you go in size and quality. If you had a choice between a Medium Foot army and a Heavy Foot army with the same unit capabilities, the Medium Foot is more cost-effective in almost every way and there is no reason to redu...

Re: Moving through a ZOC

@GrayMouser. The rule change is easy. A move is only allowed by a unit if it does not conflict with any ZoC rules instead of arbitrarily picking one and ignoring the others. Maybe, Im not so sure its desirable though based on some things I just observed. Its hard to think of "changes" when what we ...

Re: Please don't make me come and get you.

Why are you even in the league or playing the game at this point? Why are you playing in the league then, Mike? Recently, you have entered in alternate seasons and you have immediately complained about the way people are playing against you. Last time you did the same thing as well. Looking at the ...

Re: Please don't make me come and get you.

You can't legislate against this behaviour as it is not a discreet action. Setting armies close together eliminates skill in maneuver. But the entire idea that someone would pick an army in a league setting AND BE WILLING TO DRAW at 0-0 unless handed all the advantages like having their opponent att...

Re: Please don't make me come and get you.

I don't blame a player for doing what they think is necessary to preserve their army, but I believe that there should be some sort of rule to prevent turtling. Maybe if no casualties have been inflicted for five turns running, then whoever controls the four middle squares wins a 40-0 victory, or so...

Re: Please don't make me come and get you.

In most games someone takes a defensive position. That is normally because one army is disadvantaged because of terrain and army composition. Part of the challenge in the league is to pick an army that can do well in any situation and still be competitive. A skill I'm definitely struggling with :-)...

Please don't make me come and get you.

Please don't make me come across the map and get you. This is from the Digital League and I have blacked out the armies involved to avoid naming and shaming but this is absurd and rest assured it is not only this instance. More than half of my games have my opponent with troops within 5-10 squares o...

Re: Arrows vs Armour: Agincourt Myth Busting

Sadly we don't know as the distances are typically not mentioned in these types of things and the gentleman is long dead so we cannot get clarification :) . I would assume no more than 50-75 meters at the very most. It was a hot day on soft ground and with your head tucked down and only a small slit...
