Re: Warbands need a rebalance???

Superior Warbands are among the most expensive units in the game. I wonder if they are overcosted if anything given their propensity to chase and are unmaneurvable. I am also unsure whether there is enough real data to show whether much of anything is or is not unbalanced. The game is less than a mo...

Re: Deployment of Veterans

If the answer to this question was straightforward, simple or produced a consistent answer, I don't think this would be a very good game.

Re: Armour POAs

This is a game, not a simulation. We do not have enough data to actually simulate ancient warfare. The importance imo of any wargame is to offer a roughly balanced game while honouring the authenticity of the subject matter at hand. I don't think whether up armoring spearmen should be 12 points or ...

Re: Armour POAs

Fair points, Mike. Let's take a look at them. Isn't this what minimum and maximum troop numbers are trying to represent? As I see it, simply by looking at the number limits/requirements of an army you can tell if a given unit is core, auxiliary or rare in that particular army. If the limits are alr...

Re: Battle of Carrhae - Historical Simulation - Good joke

All of which is why I cringe mentally every time I see games advertise themselves as "simulations" of battles, in any period. We still don't know to this day how American Civil War battles were really fought beyond the broad strokes. We have rough ideas given training manuals and first person accoun...

Re: Armour POAs

I just noticed something relating to this issue: the impact of armour on a unit's cost. Let's take a look at two cases: If we consider Thureophoroi at 42 points, it will cost 12 more points to get Thorakitai at 54, the only difference being Protected->Armoured. If we consider Mercenary Hoplites at ...

Re: PoA/Percentages and Outcomes just don't match up

This isn't about 'the nasty AI beat me, the dice must be cheating' :) It was late so I was not as clear as I may have been! I was trying to make two separate observations: i. Win/Draw/Loss percentages as displayed on screen do not seem to be reflected in the actual outcomes. ii. In ALL cases, both ...

Re: Battle of Carrhae - Historical Simulation - Good joke

He has a point in that I feel any game that tries to call itself a simulation of war is suspect. Certainly any IGO UGO system is going to create some strange situations, not to mention no one has reliable records if what battle was actually like and we can only speculate at best based on spase accou...

Re: Field of Glory II Second Tournament

That is a sad state of affairs. You have a perfectly fine point based non elimination system that can be used to do swiss pairings which can support a field of any size as long as there are an even number of opponents but for some reason you need to cap a tournament in size? Why would you create a s...

Re: Would you be a more active player with a LIVE MP mode ?

Kind of a wall of text incoming but here my thoughts on the issue. First of all an introduction so you know my gaming background and where I am coming from. I am 36 year old who literally grew on computer strategy games. I play a lot of other genres too but I feel I am a strategy gamer at my core. I...

Re: The Lack of Generals

Please highly consider standardizing the General unit count. In the opening tournament force selection, maxing out generals and then subsequently fidgeting their unit placements by swapping units in and out of formation is time consuming and irritating but when you are in a tournament scenario and w...

PBEM issue: Scripts or Data not matching

Ran across a strange message today in PBEM. Maybe someone could take a look at this. Video content is self explanatory, you can watch past the first minute if you want to watch my terrible strategies and see if you can spot any issues while playing the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70u28D_hL...
