Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

- This is in part because the Foot are trapped by their 2 space movement speed. The larger the amount of overlap, the larger distance the Foot have to travel to flank the engaged pikes. - The longer it takes to flank the pikes, the more time they have to win individual combats with the engaged Ital...

Re: Revised army lists for Season 6 . . .

Is the army lists essentially locked in stone now? So Late antiquity will be 0 BC - 600? I got some new video editing software and want to lock in some graphics for something I am making.

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Yes, well I have stopped playing completely now except for the testing of my scenarios and I do not anticipate returning to tournament play, although I will continue to run the FOG2DL. All we are doing here is to suggest ways to improve the game and, on other issues, there has been some modest move...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Pete, it is because I have been around competitive gaming circles long enough to understand that whenever people complain about too much RNG, it is really secret code for 'the right people aren't winning when they should'. A lot of times the right person is usually in the context of 'me'. I have see...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Has anyone (MikeC for example) done a big spreadsheet on the relative probabilities of various events? For example: - What is the probability of a superior heavy infantry unit passing a cohesion roll vs a superior cavalry or medium foot unit? - How big is the advantage of having the superior trait ...

Re: dkalenda has won Classical Antiquity Division A!

Romano-British and Soisson being good armies in Late Antiquity are more of a function of the fact that most Late Antiquity armies are poop. In FoG2 your units need to either be really good or very cheap and Late Antiquity is a race to the bottom to get the most men per dollar spent especially now th...

Re: Tournament handicaps for armies/terrain

Classifying armies is subjective but it is relatively easy to set objective criteria and perhaps even create an algorithm to decide what grading to give them So you could say an army gets so many points for being in the top ten bracket of competition winners An army with elite legionaries adds so m...

Re: Problem of Byzantine complexity.....

Max out shooting and shoot up their expensive cav. They have no infantry that is better than 100 poa on impact and 100 in melee before armour. Just don't charge into dart bow infantry. ZoC them and make them come to you. You should be well ahead on the number of maneuver elements given their high cost

Re: Double-Breaks Far too Frequent

There is a wave of memes going out on unfair game difficulty and Xcom2 is another game that generates a ton of discussion like this on what is or isn't RNG. If you ever want to really understand proper move sequencing and risk management in a turn-based environment, Xcom and Xcom 2 is where it's at....

Re: Double-Breaks Far too Frequent

Thank you for the explanation. So if I'm understanding in a particular turn when charging more units into a melee against a unit that has been losing yet passing the cohesion test it can add additional negative modifiers to the unit's cohesion test causing it to fail? Yes but that is unlikely and a...

Holy crap, I played FG2 when I was a child. It was one of my first wargames ever.

Do you have the rights to the old soundtrack? Those old Catholic chants were haunting. I hope the sequel will retain that type of musical style.

Re: How can you beat Macedonians with Indians?

Don't shoot the Pikes. It is a waste of time given the number of shots you need to pump into them before they will take CT tests. Go after their support infantry and cavalry. Shoot them up good and deprive their pikes of any support. After you strip away their supporting infantry, you can flank them...

Re: I've struggled hard to like this game...

Why did I dump three lancers onto one skirmisher? Because there was an(not outlandish)expectation that I would run rough-shod over it and get to the target(2 theuroporoi units)in their flank...crushing and rolling up their flank...and this is why I originally started this post. I felt my logic and ...

Re: I've struggled hard to like this game...

yes it's annoying when it happens to you, but I don't want everything to be entirely predictable, it's more fun this way! If anything, it is very predictable. 2 out of 3 games, I can reliably discern the winner on or before first contact just based on who managed to get the matchups they wanted. On...
