Re: Arrows vs Armour: Agincourt Myth Busting

Absolutely fantastic video. I was shocked at how little resistance riveted mail provided on the shot that slipped under the plate. Even though they shot at the plate at the central bulge there was still denting at close range. One thing that surprised me was the cloth doublet worn over the plate pro...

Re: Cataphracts : Rework Needed ?

This is bizarre. The Cats should have 50 PoA differential on the Irr Foot on Impact and that should translate to 28-30% win rate on impact. But empirically all mounted units with a +50 PoA advantage convert about 3-5% lower in win rate than they should. This was tested by me on the 1.18 build this m...

Re: Pike POA table Question

These are indeed stacking modifiers. Within the game, the 2nd PoA modifier is known as "deep pike". It is also important to note that unlike other PoA modifiers in the game, this one is unique to close combat troops in that they degrade with casualties. Deep Pike is actually 100 PoA x % strength of ...

Re: Superior pikes charger lancers - and become Fragmented

No, infantry gets full impact PoA if defending the charge vs shock cavalry. They get nothing if they are attacking.

Re: Superior pikes charger lancers - and become Fragmented

If I understand what you are saying, Pikes charged Lancers? Pikes get 0 PoA vs lancers when attacking without the 4th rank

Re: Beginner's Guide Video Series

Hi, glad you enjoyed it. If you can convince RBS to make a good replay system I could be enticed to make more. Unfortunately, as it stands, for me to do a video, it requires close to 50 gigs of recorded video per game, which I then have to edit. It is brutally time-consuming and I am a very active p...

Re: SUGGESTION: Changes To Victory Conditions

I am not a fan of anything that just extends the game because the differential between players is too close ( ie the 59- 59 example mentioned). A single shot from an out of ammo skirmisher can auto rout the steadiest unit. Changing the victory condition to need a 5% etc difference doesn’t extinguis...

Re: Archers too weak

We know that arrowfire alone was more than capable of turning back attacks large and small. If so then why did English used difficult terrain and field fortifications? If the firepower was enough to drive the opponents off they wouldn't need them. If English longbowmen really had such firepower how...

Re: Revised army lists for Season 6 . . .

Do you anticipate that the armies will be restricted to allies that fall primarily in the same time period? ie Arab City 300AD can potentially pick Sassanid 591 AD - 628 AD as allies. Do you consider allies are 'part of the kit' or do allies have to conform to the same time period rules?

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

A super small request. Could you post the year of the armies chosen in the FoG2DL archive? Even if it is just the starting year if space is a problem? I noticed that season 5 did not have them. Thanks!

Re: Archers too weak

English Longbows could defeat riveted mail of common quality at 80 yards or under assuming proper poundage of the bow firing the correct ammunition. You are assuming quite a lot of things here. What is a "common" quality of chainmail? What is proper poundage? How can we assume that longbows could d...

Re: Archers too weak

Without getting too much into how a good longbow folded over a thousand times can cut through solid steel, if you make longbowmen a superior massed 'bow' unit with 50% swordsmen, you will get very authentic results when shooting and charging mounted knights in rough/swamp-tile as happened at Agincou...

Re: Archers too weak

But the question is, what exactly is advertised? And how depict that in the game? The truth is that English longbowmen were deployed and used in a very specific manner against very specific enemies. When deployed against the French they relied on field fortifications and protection from friendly me...

Re: Archers too weak

The record is pretty clear on the English Longbow in the Hundred's Years war during open battle. Whenever they have a chance to pre-position defensive works and can entice an opponent to attack, their record is nearly flawless and their effect was as good as advertised. There are written accounts th...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

- This is in part because the Foot are trapped by their 2 space movement speed. The larger the amount of overlap, the larger distance the Foot have to travel to flank the engaged pikes. - The longer it takes to flank the pikes, the more time they have to win individual combats with the engaged Ital...

Re: Revised army lists for Season 6 . . .

Is the army lists essentially locked in stone now? So Late antiquity will be 0 BC - 600? I got some new video editing software and want to lock in some graphics for something I am making.

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Yes, well I have stopped playing completely now except for the testing of my scenarios and I do not anticipate returning to tournament play, although I will continue to run the FOG2DL. All we are doing here is to suggest ways to improve the game and, on other issues, there has been some modest move...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Pete, it is because I have been around competitive gaming circles long enough to understand that whenever people complain about too much RNG, it is really secret code for 'the right people aren't winning when they should'. A lot of times the right person is usually in the context of 'me'. I have see...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Has anyone (MikeC for example) done a big spreadsheet on the relative probabilities of various events? For example: - What is the probability of a superior heavy infantry unit passing a cohesion roll vs a superior cavalry or medium foot unit? - How big is the advantage of having the superior trait ...

Re: dkalenda has won Classical Antiquity Division A!

Romano-British and Soisson being good armies in Late Antiquity are more of a function of the fact that most Late Antiquity armies are poop. In FoG2 your units need to either be really good or very cheap and Late Antiquity is a race to the bottom to get the most men per dollar spent especially now th...
