Rushing Strategy

Recently I've been playing around with rushing in Polaris Sector. Rushing is a highly effective strategy because it takes centuries for your initial colonies to grow into economically developed planets like your homeworld, but a quick invasion can give you a second fully-developed homeworld instantl...

Re: AI seem to colonize slowly

the problem is that in such a small galaxy the game might finish before even reaching 60% of the research To be fair, I find the game is usually a forgone conclusion long before the tech tree is even close to complete, even on larger settings. In my current game, I'm sitting at 150 planets (just co...

Re: AI seem to colonize slowly

Okay, I encountered the most hilarious example of this last night. When I first contacted them, I noticed that the Sharatar had stalled at 3 planets colonized and the Gavakens at just one. They were quite distant from me, so sending a spy ship out that way was a low priority. I grew increasingly sus...

Re: Use of corvettes in later game stages?

however let's look at the other side the coin! Interceptors are superior to fighters in combination with defender structures and stationed around a planet for defense, since in that case they don't consume any space and their somewhat better hull turn out to be useful. Being on the defense doesn't ...

Re: Use of corvettes in later game stages?

On a related note, do you think the Interceptor has a similar problem? There doesn't seem to be a good selection of weapons to put in a medium pylon, so for the most part it's using the exact same weapons as a Fighter would. There are a few races with bad Fighters for whom it makes sense to pay a bi...

Re: AI seem to colonize slowly

I find the AI can be exceedingly inconsistent in terms of its colonization pace. I've sometimes seen them twiddle their thumbs for centuries with 1-5 planets, and other times they seem to balloon outwards just as quickly as me (sometimes faster, if they get a bunch of easily accessible space while I...

Re: Does AI cheat all time ?

Your observations sounds logical but can't be taken as correct since you didn't take into account that the AI can feed your spies with false information, which is most likely the case in you observation. Except I actually did invade the blockade worlds and there really were orbital satellites there...

Re: Use of corvettes in later game stages?

For the most part I'd concur, Corvettes do lose most of their relevance once frigates come around. They don't seem to have any particular niche to call their own. The Magellan Corvette is the only real exception I've found, since that thing has lots of little nooks and crannies to fit extra fuel, le...

Re: Does AI cheat all time ?

if you play on "Challenge" difficulty the AI does not have any bonuses and does not "cheat". This is incorrect. I've caught the AI cheating quite egregiously on challenge difficulty. I often have sabotage ships running perpetual missions on border worlds, destroying surface buildings to earn XP (yo...

Re: All races suddenly weak?!

There's an easy fix to this... Simply switch the focus of your planets slightly. Production planets need to lose a lot of factories for this but otherwise destroying a couple labs or mines can have the job done (might take a good deal of mines but then you can choose which mineral or trade for it)....

Re: All races suddenly weak?!

Each AI faction gets a (renewable every year) "trade pool" of minerals (otherwise you would never be able to trade, because they are always "short") - this information is from the developer. It's my understanding that they can't use it themselves. However, they can use whatever they get from you in...

Re: All races suddenly weak?!

However this is happening to EVERY race, even the stronger ones. I find it hard to believe that all the races are all starved for minerals except me. The AI gets free resources and occasionally gets to instantly-complete build jobs, so in peace-time it can quickly overbuild well beyond its ability ...

Re: Fueling Bug while retreating from hostile system

I found a similar bug with satellites that include fuel tanks and a refueling module. I'd built them to bridge a string of planet-less systems and get low-fuel units across to the other side. I found that the stellar energy modules wouldn't activate for some reason, but if I disassembled and reassem...

Re: Battle satellites

On a harder difficulty the satellites are accompanied by 100-200 fighters, so your corvette probably wont survive (unless it's a really good corvette). Doesn't change the fact that the satellites themselves are nearly useless. So long as you come with sufficient anti-fighter power to deal with that...

Re: Hydroponics Food Production

I played around with Hydroponics on my most recent game and found that the austere foodstuffs control reduces food consumption more than it reduces food production, which actually results in a higher overall food surplus in most cases. This turns hydroponics colonies from just breaking even into mod...
