Later Ottoman's are Protestants?

Sultan Martin LutherThe Magnificent will be happy.

:D

Sounds like a fun team event.

Re: Field of Glory goes 2.0 !

I don't play FoW ... But they are certainly doing something right. I'm not sure if it is marketing; publishing; up-dating; or what ... But something they do is working. Comic book or not I wonder if their buisness model might be something Slitherene can learn from?? The tounaments at the big US conv...

Re: Field of Glory goes 2.0 !

I have been asking for a 2.0 in the same Osprey format from the beginning of this discussion. There certainly is no lack of interest by Osprey in pulbishing wargaming rulebooks. I just bought "Bolt Action" published by them. We had a local convention last weekend and I may have recruited a new ancie...

Re: 4 Madaxeman.com Reports from the ITC in Lisbon

Dear Mad, Another entertaining report. Hannibal's Carthaginian FoG army also faces an up-hill struggle against Mid-Republican Romans, even without any Superior types. I actually have found that the Cannae tactic of Gallic/Spanish center with African flanking supports can cause the Roman a real probl...

Re: Seleucids - How does this army handle?

One neat thing about the Seleucid army (and FoG) is that if you do pick one of everything you get to see how a lot of different rules/BGs work; Elephants, Cats, Scythed Chariots, pike, impact foot, etc. It is a great army to learn a lot about this game.

Re: How did the smaller table work out for Ancients at Britc

Five foot wide at Britcon left a little room for manoeuver. 4 Foot wide and nine hundred points would leave very few armies viable. Pike, Romans, Armoured Hoplites. Great if you want to do a Campaign based in Rome or Greece, but pretty crap for everyone else. .... Hey!! What's wrong with Romans and...

Re: What FOG is missing

The "art" in making a historical wargame (for me of course) is to find the balance between what we know of history and making the game fun to play. Late Republican Romans vs a Gallic army is a perfect case. The ++ POA the legionaries were getting against the majority of Gallic BGs, while (agruably) ...

Re: Ancient Spanish army-Heavy or Medium?

Cool list ...
Have you thought about building a "Sertorian" army ... A nice mix of Roman goodies and Spanish?
Less of an all Spanish "speed-bump" IMHO.

Just watch your back if you do become Sertorius.

Re: roman loss of skilled swordsman

As Hazelbark says, this went through a number of iterations during the Beta testing. Removal of the Skilled Sword capbility was in the first batch of options that was tried (largely to improve the Roman/Barbarian interaction) but was later reversed. The option of rebalancing the game via the points...

Re: Britcon results

John Munroe scored 101 points, Richard, Andy and Ben scored 95. As Richard, Andy and Ben did not all play each other it is not possible to do direct comparisons which are my preffered method of splitting ties so I looked at the sum of the scores for all of each player's opponents. From memory Richa...

Re: Field of Glory goes 2.0 !

When we are talking about a printable copy do you mean like the V2 playtest rules we used? If so ... yuck I have already voiced my desire ... I prefer a V2 rulebook as nice as and similar to the V1 rulebook. One thing that got me to try FoG was the professional presentation of the rulebook. I bough...

Re: What FOG is missing

"The problem is that if we do too much to make the battles "historical" in that regard, we will risk reducing the playability of the game. Let's face it: a significant percentage (maybe most) of ancient battles were of the line-'em-up-and-go-forward variety. And that, however historical, is not a fu...

Re: Field of Glory goes 2.0 !

I have an i-pad But I want a book like V1 for wargaming. Not a printable downloading thing nor do I want an Ap ... I want a book. I bought FoG, FoG-R, all the army lists and Fog-N (and I don't even own a Napoleonic figure) ... to support them so when the time came for a V2 they would print another b...

Re: Field of Glory goes 2.0 !

I struggle to think of many meaningful situations where it would kick in, other than when one player has SSw capability Steady Armoured Spear vs Protected Swordsmen springs to mind. OK - so Spartans vs Galatians then, as I don't recall seeing many protected swordsmen in the dark ages and medieval p...

Re: Field of Glory goes 2.0 !

I think I like the V2 armor limitation ... I forget but was the warband impact stuff left off the list. I did not like that. Elephants with 3 impact dice are cool too. Just ask any Seleucid player. There are enough changes to make V2 worth trying. But I love my Osprey-sized book. Grrrrrrrrrrr Mike B

Re: Field of Glory goes 2.0 !

An interesting decision but not suprising. I wonder if the Field of Glory books are losing money? As for me, I own an I-Pad, none of my buddy gamers do. So at best, instead of selling 4 -5 hard copies of V2 they will sell me one, maybe. I don't know about gamers in you areas but locally a player who...

Re: Any news of V2

We continue to play FoG-A and enjoy it. We just finshed a mini Caesarian Roman Civil War campaign and a one off MRR v. Seleucid game. The games remain fresh and entertaining. As for V2 ... I wonder if (1) They have dropped plans to publish a new version (2) Have gone into hiding to write without any...

Scythed Chariots

Haven't used them in a while and don't have my rule book with me ....

I know a destroyed/removed scythed chariot does not count as a BG lost (for victory conditions) but does it count towords the BG total at the start of the game?

Thanks (working on army lists here at work, don't tell)

Heavy Weapon Q

We had a BG of Thracians; Protected with Heavy Weapon. They were fighting a BG of Spanish Scutarii; Protected, Impact Foot, Sword.
Do the Thracians get a + POA for armor because the Heavy Weapon cancels the armor of the Scutarii?

Thanks
