Early Swedes ... Cannot Be Beat

We started out our FoG-R adventure with my ECW armies, an Ottoman army and a partialy finished Spanish-Low-Countries army. Since then one player has built a ECW Montrose army and another his very own Swedish Early TYW army. Mr Gustav has never lost a game yet with his army. He has beaten every conco...

Sounds like he needs some inspirational dice first lol Yeah, it wouldn't hurt - thing is he used my dice! My only complaint of FoG is that the dice seem to be incredibly one sided. I have far too many '1:1000' dice results. I've played too many games where I rolled nothing but 5's... and too many g...

Re: New Model Army

This army doesn't seem to have much going for it - no commanded shot is a big minus, and I've been trying to put a good-looking list together without much success. With only a couple of Superior units, it's hard to get more than 12-13 BGs at 800 points and then it looks like a pretty vanilla army. ...

Re: Small is Beautiful

I do think there should be a chance for the 650 point game to be given a run out at one of the larger UK FOG events. Dave The 25mm competition at Britcon uses 650 point armies on a 6x4 foot table. MUs are still 1-inch, so you don't close the range any quicker, but the table is only 30 base-widths w...

If you can find a copy, the 1992 Duncan head book published by montvert would be the best source I would say.

.............. The Duncan Head book is very good. I would highly recommend it also.

I would have the player that wins the initiative choose a terrain type from the player that lost the initiative dice roll.

Maybe we are playing a different game but every time my superior units roll a 1 my re-roll is only a 2!

Making impact more critical is an interesting consideration. What if you fail a cohesion test after loosing in impact you drop two levels. That certainly will create an impact on the game.

We have been using Romans without SSW against barbarians for many months now. Reducing the Roman ++ POA by one gives just the right balance for these historical games. My two regular barbarian opponents using both Gallic and German armies are in agreement that this gives them (1) a better chance in ...

Today I had a 4 stand BG of MRR Roman cavalry charge into a disrupted BG of 8 Pyrrhic pike. The end result of the combat was a broken phalanx of pike that just happened to lead to the Roman victory. So based on this example I would argue that yes, ancient cavalry in FoG are overpowered. But I have p...

Elephant questions: I was told that if a BG of cavalry is within a base width of an elephant, only that element is disordered not the entire BG. Is that accurate, because I do not read the rule that way? I suggest that we make certain that elephants disorder nearby cavalry etc by BG not just element...

Two comments on Nik's propose army list changes: 1. Do whatever you feel you need to do with the rules and lists (and of course you will) ... One of the reasons I enjoy FoG is how Romans are treated by the rules and lists. At least Romans from the Principate back ... Please be careful not to damage ...

MY concern with warriors have been how effective they have been as missile troops, not really the role I think we want highlanders to have. Unless we are doing something wrong, they seem too good at shooting. Our Scots Royalist player tends to use them in that role rather than as shock troops. Mike b

The rules would work more correctly if you use 3 of your bases per "6 base" BG and count each as 2 FOGR bases - use some sort of marker to denote casualties. Then the game should work exactly as intended. FoG is much more geometic than WECW. If you think you are going to be playing FoG (and/or DBR)...

What I would like is to see measures taken to make Republican and Early Imperial Romans more competitive, so that they are playable in a tournment, using legionnaries as they're main strike arm, not a swarm of auxilias. The Republican and Imperial Roman legionarii are perfectly competitive, the iss...
