I agree with Deducter, I think artillery was strong enough as it was. Implementing a bonus based on shorter range would make defensive fire even more powerful. Maybe a compromise would be -1 attack per hex instead of -2 now. My concern is, people will hardly notice -1 attack. The difference should ...

Range penalties on artillery should be an optional, select-able choice, or only be implemented in General, Field Marshall and above levels. In a way, the old artillery system seemed wonderful because the AI is still mostly incapable of using artillery in any competent manner. If the AI could play like a human, and utilize elite, overstrength artillery the same way a human player does, the new changes would be greatly welcome. Imagine if...

What do players think about disable disembarking troops from trains on neutral or hostile city hexes? I know a new mp map requires on transporting in troops via trains, but I'm not so sure disallowing that would upset the balance of the map. I just find it very jarring to bliztkrieg via train.

In the current system, rule changes always apply for all difficulties. I'm not so sure that's the best way to do things, but rather, certain rules should only take effect on certain difficulties. Regarding the defensive artillery i think it is pretty realistic. Defensive artillery fire in clear terrain being devastating to attackers is absolutely realistic.
