Re: Terrain "Cover" Variable

Just as a quick experiment, let's see what happens if we effectively halve the ROF of defensive artillery in city hexes. This is done by halving the strength of the defending artillery. http://i.imgur.com/E52U3Zp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ZFKIfQw.jpg The Panther defends much better here with artillery ...

Re: Terrain "Cover" Variable

Why is artillery super effective in close terrain specifically, and what problem exactly are you trying to solve? To demonstrate this, I submit a number of common examples of combat. In these examples, all German units are at 400 exp and Soviet units at 300 exp. http://i.imgur.com/HtSQeTe.jpg http:...

Re: The Snowball Effect and Possible Solutions

Stronger core is always more economical than weaker one, especially in the long term. Provided that you can afford it in the short term. That's the whole point of prestige mechanics. I still don't understand why you chose to attack the problem from this angle. You started this topic by stating that...

Re: Terrain "Cover" Variable

It might be more useful to rethink how entrenchment works in the game. Thus, it could provide 2x defense against air and ranged attacks, just like it provides 0.5x bonus against infantry. What units reduce entrenchment and how exactly they do that might be interesting as well. Entrenchment is PG/Pz...

Re: Logistics (PzC 2)

In PzC current state, logistics aren't heavily penalized. Units can resupply as long as they have one zone of control remaining (I believe?). In the current game mechanics, a unit can resupply and reinforce up to 66% of its maximum if there is one adjacent enemy, 33% if there are two, and 0 if ther...

Re: The Snowball Effect and Possible Solutions

As someone pointed out: Don't forget ye olde basic gamer who has a hard time with the game. I stopped playing in the middle of the Russian DLCs because it was becoming too hard (as well as time constraints). I agree. Reform units, by lessening the death penalty, should very much help out players wh...

Re: The Snowball Effect and Possible Solutions

I think we should focus on more elegant ways to go around fixing the problem and not brute force "take prestige" options. If the answer is as simple as less prestige than just give less in the first place. A flat reduction to prestige does not in any way resolve the issue that heavy tanks are more ...

Re: The Snowball Effect and Possible Solutions

I would not support this at all. The same thing can just be achieved by limiting the number of prestige you get in a scenario and is less complex. There should not be any mechanics that punish play. There are absolutely mechanics that punish play. I want to attack with my Tiger into a city with a G...

Re: Terrain "Cover" Variable

I prefer any cover system reducing ROF since it is the most direct method in the game engine to provide a flat, average damage reduction. Going from a ROF of 10 to a ROF of 8 reduces damage by 20% on average, for any unit. Adding defense values to a unit is a less linear method, furthermore, it woul...

Re: Terrain "Cover" Variable

And speaking of historical accuracy, a forest was considered a bad type of cover against artillery for infantry in WW2, because any shells hitting the trees would often trigger an airburst, which was more effective vs. exposed personnel than a shell landing on the ground. This can be roughly observ...

Re: Terrain "Cover" Variable

I don't like the idea of repurposing an existing trait for a cover system, because a cover system surely would require additional coding and a mathematical formula to describe the reduction to damage. It would seem much clearer to simply introduce a new variable, which can then be modded independent...

Re: Terrain "Cover" Variable

Wouldn't such a system merely serve to duplicate entrenchment? Infantry already receives a minimum entrenchment level for being in rough terrain - wouldn't it be more intuitive to simply have entrenchment have a bigger effect at nullifying artillery suppression? No, because entrenchment is a non-co...

Terrain "Cover" Variable

Proposal: Terrain Cover Rating Currently in the game engine, artillery and bombers do almost identical damage to a unit regardless of the terrain type it occupies. Historically, infantry entrenched in good defensive terrain like cities, hills, and forests almost are much harder to hit and suppress b...

Re: The Snowball Effect and Possible Solutions

Overstrength is powerful, no doubt. That's the reason why many people like it. However, I don't like the idea to nerf it down beyond recognition. I don't like useless or close to useless concepts in gameplay. Game mechanics must affect gameplay in a significant way, or they should not be introduced...

Re: The Snowball Effect and Possible Solutions

Here's a quote from Delta66 about playing GC42East: "For the Stalingrad scenarios, I deployed 37+5 units, for a total around 580 steps. Maybe with more 10 stength units you are under 500 steps, which make a big diffeence in firepower. And as I mentioned the AI will often not attack supported 4 stars...

The Snowball Effect and Possible Solutions

PzC already has an incredible wealth of content, more than any other game of its genre than I can think of. Just the 10 DLCs alone offer something like 150 maps, produced in only a year. I think this speaks both to the robustness of the game engine and the desire of players for this type of game. Ho...

Re: Looking For Allied Commanders to invade Panzer Corps!

Let's put it this way. Allied Corps will not be Panzer Corps 2, it will be an evolutionary update. PzC, AK and the new Allied will certainly have a lot in common, and will share common Multiplayer. This naturally limits our creativity in changing gameplay mechanics. We DO plan to tweak some gamepla...

Re: Panzer Corps 2: Research Tree

In an alternative development branch you can decide against the sherman tank, which wasn't an equal opponent for Tigers and Panthers. You decide for a much slower, better armoured alternative. Let's call it "Animalhunter" or whatever you want. As a piece of trivia, the Soviet SU-152 was nicknamed "...

Hey, Thanks for the awesome mod. Since I have been experimenting quite a lot as well, I took a look in your equipment-files and found some little/minor mistakes. Re: Grand Campaign Unit Revisions (GC45West, Mar 4 2013)

I am preparing to release v1.11.2. I've had some feedback via PMs, but the only major balancing change will be overstrength cost increases. Changes: -GME Installation Option -Overstrength costs increased by approximately 10% of a unit's base price per step in all years. So this works out to 20% (vs ...
