What is the current status of the SysTray Tool?

(The SysTray Tool, was a little downloadable program which would cause an icon to flash in one's Task Bar when one had a multiplayer turn ready to be played)

Re: Steam key?

I have Steam, but I bought the game direct from Slitherine. I was just wondering if there was any reason for me to register it on Steam.

Re: Choosing armies in MP skirmish battles (like FoG I)

What happens if one sets up a Pot Luck vs Pot Luck game? One has to set a map theme, so what happens if one chooses Tropical? Could one still end up with Ancient Britons vs Scots-Irish on a Tropical map? I think there's a strong case for an Auto-map option, which would automatically choose a map bas...

Re: Ideas for how to learn the game?

It can be useful to create a blank scenario as a sandbox to test out various units and terrains. Set it as a Hotseat game to control both sides. Any time you want to check something out you can return to the editor and add to the scenario whatever troops or terrain you want to test.

Re: Small suggestions thread

Regarding the Indian Forest Tribesmen and Indian Archers units sharing identical graphics, I've looked through the armies and I can see only one other instance of this - the generic Massed Archers and Archers appear in a few armies together and share identical graphics. So there's only two new model...

Re: Small suggestions thread

There's no right or wrong in playing multiple games against one opponent, per se. It's just a matter of personal preference. It would be nice, though, to include an optional tickable box at game set-up, as that would seem to be a simple solution to the issue.

Small suggestions thread

For suggestions that probably aren't worth a thread on their own... - Replays of one's opponent's turn in multiplayer games currently also show the moves they have consequently Undone. It didn't do this in FoG I and I can see no reason for showing them. - Add a notification and shutter noise for tak...

Re: Optimal ways to use light troops

It's better to have an enemy wasting his arrows shooting your cheap slingers than your pikemen. Plus, skirmishers aren't worth so many victory points and so are fairly expendable.

Re: Choosing armies in MP skirmish battles (like FoG I)

Right.. I think...hhm.. I think maybe you missed the third sentence from what you quoted where I cover what could happen when you hid your army? Anyways, more choice are usually or better, Ijust prefer the new format for open challenges. You can set up what you want, accept what you want or can be ...

Re: Choosing armies in MP skirmish battles (like FoG I)

I do like the ideas you have for map selection. Many years ago my friends and I played a set of Napoleonic rules where the defender got to choose to place the first two pieces of terrain on the table (e.g. hills) then the attacker chose one, and so on. This worked well to present a battlefield that...

Re: Choosing armies in MP skirmish battles (like FoG I)

In FOG1 if you declared your army you had to "worry" about your opponent building a designer made army to specifically squeeze every advantage over your declared one. One famous player had a name for this, "The ambush". On the other hand I don't know how many times when one hid the army, your oppon...

Choosing armies in MP skirmish battles (like FoG I)

The most popular format for multiplayer games in FoG I is not available in FoG II , although it does contain other formats, like Pot Luck. In this particular FoG I format, each player would pick the army they wanted to play with, but would do so without knowledge of what army their opponent was goin...

Re: The Lack of Generals

Oh, I thought you meant that the CinC could provide command control while fighting. My bad! But SGs can also provide CC to troops outside of their command. EDIT: now that I think about it, I'm not sure what your point was. My point was that if a sub-general was in close combat then his troops would...

I doubt that.
From the manual:
manual wrote:10.2. Line of Command

The C-in-C can provide command control to any troops. A sub-general can provide command control to any non-allied troops.

Re: The Lack of Generals

Anyone know when a fix for this will be released? I think this should be at or near the top of the list. I don't really feel like playing a multiplayer game and getting an unfair advantage by using the one weird old trick, but neither do I want to be a disadvantaged by an opponent who does. --------...

Re: The Lack of Generals

I'm mostly playing Large maps, to be fair. Maybe Medium maps could have one Field Commander sub-general for the centre and a Troop Commander sub-general for cavalry and/or flank, and to get a commander for both flanks would require buying another general. Or alternatively, have three sub-generals as...

Re: The Lack of Generals

I agree with the_iron_duke's suggestion, although maybe tweak down the number of generals--two generals on a medium map, etc. It might be good to have commanders for centre and each flank at Medium size, which would mean three sub-generals, since troops appear to be under direct command of sub-gene...

Re: The Lack of Generals

I think there should be an automated and standardized number of generals per map size, say for a medium map one C-in-C and two sub-generals, large map one C-in-C and three sub-generals (and maybe sub-generals with different command levels). These would cost no points. This would allow someone to jus...
