Infantry issues, or how to make them not suck

Infantry in this game survives such a short time, that its main purpose is just to get these victory hexes vehicles cannot. This results in anti infantry weapons being severly nerfed (RoF decrease in multiple heavy bolters, reduced RoF compared to the TT for many weapons), but to no avail, as units ...

Re: Unit Balancing

Devastator centurions with gravcannon are on par with cyclone terminators after number is down to 6, slightly more durable, abut terminator are a bit more versatile against units in cover when assaulting). I buffed Assault terminators and assault centurions melee weapons to 4 shots, but even then, i...

Re: Act1 Missions Feedback

I had a req reduction and depleted unit at the end of act 2(capturing Von strab). Hmm. Interesting, alright I'll take another look. Thanks! Sorry, I was not very clear. This reduction happened right before the capture mission (I think the mission leading to the reduction was the one where you have ...

As for Tycho, I'll investigate, thanks!
My bad I was talking about salamander centurion assault squad with meltagun who are without meltagun.

Re: Wish list for future fixes after 1.0 release

The game representation is abstracted indeed, making gargants and Titans smaller compared to infantry. Some units have jet packs in the game (assault marines and Vanguard veterans),but these do nothing at all : they cannot cross rivers or jump on cliffs, they need to find a ford or a ramp like every...

You need not to press the button during load time to see the intro. There should be a button to review intro movie in the menu.

Re: Wish list for future fixes after 1.0 release

Less passive AI(as I said a few spotting 3 or 4 more units here and there would do the trick. The AI is reasonable once it has spotted something to fire at) and objective display definitely before 1.0. After 1.0, I hope for mod support, several difficulty modes and a more flexible engine. Engine imp...

[editor]edition of unit and weapon traits, graphics

There are a few items missing from the editor : I have found no way to associate a new unit with existing graphics, let alone new ones (for instance if I want to mod different Titan load outs). And, more importantly, it is not possible to change unit and weapon traits. I wish it become possible afte...

Re: Ai shortcomings

I agree about the need to restrain orks from sending everything at the Imperial player given the overwhelming odds, that said, each group (ie, bunch of ork units that defend a given area) should at least try to deal with the units attacking them. Waiting idly under fire sure does not seem very orkis...

Re: Vadersson's Data Mine Thread

Great job on the data mining. Concerning melee, I don't think it would be that good to give melee weapons to everyone now, because units attacked in melee already automatically shoot at their target before they are being assaulted. As it stands now, assault units are already pretty weak compared to ...

Blood Angels Captain Tycho's squad can be upgraded to any BA infantry and lost. Intended?
The SA assault Squad with meltaguns is also missing its meltagun.

Re: Notes on gameplay mechanics

I think part of why you are seeing the tank army so effective is that the Ork AI is currently afraid to attack tanks much at all. If at all possible, they will attack infantry instead of a tank. Thus Infantry takes a massive amount of fire and dies quickly while the tanks rarely get shot at. At lea...

Re: Thoughts on Morale

I find it weird that artillery shelling an opponent that cannot fight back loses morale. The effect seems strong enough : Command squad assaulting command squad in the open : Normal vs normal : 11 casualties for both defender and attacker Normal vs broken: 4 casualties for attacker, 13 for defender....

I too think the game really needs difficulty settings. One size fits all risks not being good for anyone. Unfortunately, there won't be time to test these.

Re: Thoughts on Morale

I too think morale should have its effect better documented, and maybe increased, while recovering should be more efficient.
Morale could reduce movement(pinning) for instance. It seems to make quite a difference on return fire taken, but it is hard to tell without more Info.

Re: Act2 Missions Feedback

I think the AI needs more units able to deal with super heavies and Titans, and less units murdering infantry. Act 2 was a walk in the park for my superheavies and Titans (+2 death strikes and 2 basilisks), while my infantry (anything not wearing terminator or centurion armor) got repeatedly mauled.

Re: Unit Balancing

I played with modded war hounds and Reavers (war hound : 2 plasma blast guns, 5 move, 4 spotting 100 defence, Reaver : 3 laser blasters). The war hound is an ok spotter, very resistant, but with pretty low damage output. It was outperformed by Land raider squadron or Shadowswords with lots of laser ...

Ai shortcomings

I think one of the main issues with the game is ho passive the AI is : when scripted to attack, it is ok, but a when in defense, or reserve,it does a terrible job. Once it detects a player unit, it will usually pile everything on it. That is not very subtle, but not a problem. The main issue is that ...

Re: Notes on gameplay mechanics

Indeed, infantry dies too quickly now, especially guard infantry(but Space Marines without centurion or terminator armor don t last long either) as many weapons got more shots, and cover got toned down. That and act2 weapons are very strong against infantry. Terminators and centurions remain potent,...
