Re: [RC] Unit Balance

But I was also including Space Marines in the imperial infantry. They are currently too weak to do anything useful IMO, which is a shame. I don t understand the reason for bumping Space marine tanks to 7 per unit (guard has 5/unit) while dropping Space Marine infantry to 10 per hex at the same time....

[RC] Unit Balance

I still find Imperial infantry to be useless : Heavy bolters Space Marines take higher casualties(relative to their starting numbers) shooting at tankbustas than any tank would. That makes no sense at all. Infantry is useless at soaking damage, and useless at causing them. Granted, they are cheaper,...

RC weapon balance

The volcano cannon still has 2 shots, making it just plainly superior to the plasma blastgun (both are supposed to be reasonable equivalent choices on a super heavy tank). It would be better to reduce it to 1 shot, and bump its accuracy to something between -0 and -5 /hex, as it is supposed to be a ...

Re: The Bug Thread

Land Raider helios (with and without hyperion missiles) still have incorrect number of lascannons.
It should be 4 (or 2*2), according to both the lore and the sprite, but they have 2*4.

Same there, I had a good time testing the game and discussing about it. I wish you good luck for the release, and I will follow closely how it goes.

Re: General impression of the game

But aren't the Ultramarines supposed to be better at something? I have not followed the recent lore, but I was under the impression the UM were better at shooting and the BA better at brawling.

Re: General impression of the game

Having spent the entire day working through the Beta 4 campaigns I agree with lots of the points raise above and also: 1. I used to play Warhammer 40k so I have some idea about the units but going from the 'safety' of limited unit selection in the tutorial to the full-blown list was mind blowing - ...

Re: Infantry issues, or how to make them not suck

nah, Shadowsword with weapon upgrade is the best option thanks to its superb array of secondary weapons. I only picked the Anihilator predator as an exemple to show how imbalanced things were because its strength of 7 is very similar to the strength of 10 of Space Marines or heavy weapons units, whi...

Re: Infantry issues, or how to make them not suck

I did use infantry as I was forced to because of objectives :) I took only graviton cannon centurions (they are broken compared to other infantry, and their troop count is pretty high considering that a squad of them is usually 3 centurions to 10 tactical Marines, so no wonder they perform better, a...

Re: Infantry issues, or how to make them not suck

I think infantry being weak is a much bigger problem than in Panzer Corps, because WW2 appeal is mostly playing German tanks vs Soviet tanks, while a good part of WH40k appeal as an Imperial player is playing Space Marine elite soldiers. But in this implementation, it is not worthwhile to do so, as ...

Re: Infantry issues, or how to make them not suck

Do you plan on putting traits back in, as in Panzer Corps? That helped make the units a bit more distinct. Here, the effect of experience seem less tangible.

Re: all mission feedback

if we don't have the full build, would it be possible to upload the updated data files at least? I see little point in testing further right now (except for testing modifications I made to the unit file).

Re: Infantry issues, or how to make them not suck

Actually, the current xp system does not work too well either : It overly favors strong units. I suppose the xp gained depend on the damage inflicted (ie the point cost of the units destroyed). It results in DeathStrikes and Shadowsords getting very high XP levels, compared to other units which surv...

Re: Infantry issues, or how to make them not suck

Actually, I think larger squad sizes with reduced accuracy would make sense for infantry. But really, I think a system where 1 squad = 1 Strength, and 1 HP = 1 guy (terminators would lose a lot of HP, but they are currently more durable than Leman Russes, which makes no sense at all, so 1 HP would b...

Re: Infantry issues, or how to make them not suck

But then why cap the unit number? It s not like getting 20 slots worth of useless infantry was a good idea. Either up the unit size to 50 or make them not count in the unit limit. The very short ranges also play against infantry : they not only take a slot, they also take a hex in range of the targe...

Re: Unit Balancing

An easy way to make lower tier units more worthwhile would be to increase the number of slots without increasing the req. then maybe people would play something else than annihilators or land raiders, lazero-Shadowswords and centurions(death strikes are ok too, as are Basilisks).

Re: Infantry issues, or how to make them not suck

Indeed, separate strength for AP and AT would help much, or each individual soldier needs to be represented (logically with its own equipment, not graphically of course). The current system is in between (each vehicle is represented, and attacks mimick the tabletop, but infantry is abstracted) is pr...

Re: Infantry issues, or how to make them not suck

Note that heavy infantry (Terminators, Centurions, Mega armored Nobz) is a bit too resilient (Space Marines get shafted because of low unit count, but individually, they can take a lot of punishment : Does a centurion has better armor than a Predator Tank in the TT? ). So if unit count is increased,...

Re: Unit Balancing

I think the main reason why infantry causes so much problem is the low health used to represent them. Infantry units should be as big as orks (ie 50 for everyone). And then, their weapons should be revised acordingly so that they do not all carry a heavy weapon (see my infantry issue thread for a lo...
