Re: Field of Glory Ancients version 2

The real problem is not MF, Lt spear, Sw who are probably about the right cost. It is the fact that MF, Sw cost the same... IMO what is missing is a combat capability, basically "Impact foot light" which you would grade most/all the troops that are MF, Sw as MF, Sw, "Impact foot light" this might ma...

Re: Field of Glory Ancients version 2

Another good example is Light Foot Vs Longbows. A BG of 8 Light Foot LtSp/Jav approach into Javelin range against 6 Longbow. The Javelins get 4 dice @ 0 points, the longbow 4 dice @ 12 points. Both require a 4 to hit. Over the course of a game the Light Foot player could get upwards of 50 FREE dice ...

Re: Ebook version for FoG V2?

You could have a yearly FoG army update that you can buy electronically to update your electronic books or as a single physically printed volume.

Re: Ebook version for FoG V2?

I actually think ancients has gotten it wrong with frequent rules changes and glacially paced army list changes. There is actually a lot of interesting new archaeology and research going on and much more abundant abilities to access foreign language sources that mean our understanding of ancient ar...

Re: Free Javelins

I don't think the balance issue is with the "free" javelins. Rather it is that other, similarly primitive armies, get no such freebies to make them competitive and are often saddled with very unfavorable ratings for morale and capabilities.

I would go 900 on 6x4 or 800 on 5x4.

It is relatively unlikely I will come to Britcon, but I find the idea of going to 650 points a bit depressing regardless of table size. In general I would rather put more toys on the table than less...

This may be just me, but I would consider doing your colors a bit more vibrantly. They come across as a bit washed out for my tastes. Now, this is probably historically accurate, but I have gone to making things just a bit "brighter" which makes the colors IMO stand out better. I am not suggesting g...

Flat brown wash, respear with wire, get some shield transfers and rebase and they would be ok.

Dawn of Chivalry - 7 breaks out of 28 games

25mm had 13 breaks in 24 games

FoG R has 17 in 52 (although my gut feel is they have more in the 17-19 point range as well)

For those of us who use medium foot armies that applies to any terrain you are trying to get to give you a chance. Not really. A piece of RGo is always advantageous to the MF army and generally disadvantageous to the opponent. A hill's value is generally based on the position it occupies on the boa...

"Battle groups which cannot conform fight as though they are conformed." I would say this general principle covers the expansion as well. Gino SMAC "Fight" is not the same as "expand." For example, expansion is optional. Fighting is not. In this case I would think "fight" covers all aspects of comb...

The Chariot range is a very good one. Notably, their chariots and horses actually fit on a 40x40 base with the horses an appropriate, i.e. small, size for the period.

Yellow shades for wood looks better and more realistic from a distance. The photos are too close up.

Brown is too dark in reality
Yeah, I have gravitated to a lighter yellow-brown, but always curious as to what people do and why they choose it.

Nice.

I have one question and it is a question not a criticism, as I struggle with this.

Why did you paint the bows yellowish? I often struggle with what color to paint "wood" as it is not necessarily brown...

Clearly these results are incorrect. Dave R is not in 2nd place.
