Re: Use of Command Points??

Seems like getting to grips with a good shooting army that can form a long firing line in a defensible position would require lots of cp to come to grips. Are you remembering cp are only reset in your own turn?

Re: Attached Commanders??

I can see from Terry's reply that earlier in the thread that brigade commanders do not have a command point, so I assume page 43 is a typo......hmmmmm, This may be the case I will need to mark up my rules. Hurry up errata.

Re: Attached Commanders??

Page 43, a brigade commander provides one free command point for the unit he is with.
Page 45, no command point is required for the first cmt taken for the unit they are with.

So....brigade commanders have two CMTs available? Seems to make thema good deal.

Re: more than one unit in an assault

I believe multiple units can assault. The question I have is on defensive fire. The defending unit gets full dice against each unit charging or are they split? If full fire does a unit in extended line get to shoot full dice at each unit? Or only normal tactical dice?

Re: Attached Commanders??

Page 28 says a corps commander must spend one of his command points to lead an assault. Page 26 says he gets a free command as page 45. It would have made sense to have all the rules for corps commanders under the commander section. Now I am unsure of what he can do. If the corp commander leads a un...

Re: v2 Army Lists

If the battlefield is set up such that the Romans are within 6" of the table edge with threatened flank, this numidians become a much bigger threat. And, do the Roman cav at cannae rate having a commander with them? Romans with threatened flank, no commander...are now in a world of trouble. Probably...

Re: Prospective Player Questions

I would not suggest the quick start rules, they are not playable as shown without perusing these boards and getting some questions answered. The best way is to find someone who can help and is willing to teach. I think you will find it more rewarding than 40k, but I believe that about most historica...

Re: Free Quick Play Rules

Ok! I think I got it. It means the 2 dice at medium range represent only the artillery firing. Will try this scenario out tonight and see how it goes.

Re: Free Quick Play Rules

Btw- what is he benefit of the attached artillery base in the quick play rules. The two Austrian line have this. Is it already figured into the shooting ability of the Austrian line?

Re: Attachments

I'm simply not rebasing, and will use what I have with sabots as needed. I plan to use a gun marker ala fogr. I am also figuring a way now to show the front bases as skirmishes for light infantry without rebasing. As long as 40mm frontage is used I can't see any problem yet. I don't believe any comp...

Re: Attrition points ......again

It is to some extent, however in a non competition scenario it can be frustrating to chase mounted off the table....and in some cases only achieve a draw...... Kind of like Crassus at the battle of Carrhae? Me thinks Crassus wished he had won a draw. The actual battle of Carrhae was a draw for Cras...

Re: Attrition points ......again

Crassus didn't chase anyone off the table with his infantry. Well, maybe the roman cav did, only to meet up with some cataphracts for a nice party.

Nice reports. Glad to see you doing well against some of the latter era armies.

Re: AM vs R, Table Size, Comp formats, MF, all in 1 post

I've fought pharsalus at 500 man per stand and it felt a bit small....ESP for Caesar with only 9 or so bg's if I remember right. The amount of skirmishes in this game means that about 1000-1500 men per bg is right for 4 stand units, and seems to match closer to the mrr legion proportions given.

Re: AM vs R, Table Size, Comp formats, MF, all in 1 post

I find my self agreeing with Matt. We can't even come to agreement on how Roman line relieve worked exactly. I see no reason to expect that Romans were less maneuverable than napoleonic era troops, and they didn't have smoke and noise of gunpowder to deal with. However, I believe that running away w...

Re: The delay in v2 rules affects decision to acquire new ar

Hmmm, Possibly massive rebasing projects as a result.......maybe I'll just make my cav two figs to a stand and light horse one. At least I won't need more figures. Perhaps not a perfect solution, but how abot mixing BG's - 2 stands of 3 and 2 stands of 2. Any BG that has some 3 figure stands will b...
