Don't like the Spanish as a 6 as I feel they are fragile-up them to an 8. Would drop the roman cav to a 4 as they should be evading before fighting. In general you want your legions stuck in ASAP, as they will run through most native Spanish troops.

Once again the Byzantines are subjected to a higher standard, but so be it. First Syvanne is not solely a secondary source but an acknowledged expert in the field. You need to read his major work The Age of the Hippokonistai. The rules authors have acknowledged that they used that book as well. I c...

So: in general, assuming that the other troops are useful (Dailami. Almughavars, etc.), are three BGs of lancers enough to be effective, or is three just enough to get into trouble? I believe the standard answer is "it depends what you want to do with them". Also what exactly the function of troops...

I recently took 2nd in a small tourney with them (this was themed as an all average troop tournament so they were downgraded from full effectiveness). That would have been an interesting bit of biff. I would have enjoyed playing that just for seeing how Gallic go against 'poorer' Legionaries. Still...

Have you misaid your medication? I cannot imagine that the hobby is enhanced in any way by abusive language, stupid accusations and an apparent indifference to a reasonable historical accuracy. You might be better off playing Fantaasy games. Dave, you have to realize you are coming across as a real...

No the rear rank should be behind the front rank and hence the cav are directly in front of the unit but it is not a flank charge. I took the pic when it was proposed that the charge would take place the next move. It's great when people take the trouble to attach photos of issues to help illustrat...

Well as a ref I'd just just be tempted to allow the expansion.....

However it is not uncommon for lf bg's to purposely get in the way of formation changes.....

We recently did the same thing. 8 players included Huns, Mongols, ottomans, another mounted and a the rest foot.......I am convinced now 3' is the way to go. Mounted can still do there thing and foot at least have a chance to push enemy of the table in the time frame. 3' depth cures so many perceive...

Cav not in one rank

Something I had been playing wrong it looks like,....

Shooting poa is by battle group and not by file, so if any file is more than one deep the - poa counts for all incoming shots.

What about flank march evades?

If evading from a flank march can you evade again from a charge? Played a game this weekend and we did it at way as it appears the evade from the fm is before charges are declared. It certainly allowed the Huns to escape....won't be flank marching against a mounted army again!!!

One of my buddies just moved back to the US from Korea, and used what I believe now to be the best method. Sticky tack (stuff used to put posters up) layed down on the bottom of the box and the stands stuck to it. He had thin plastic boxes, and turned the box upside down and shook it ---not one figu...

as Elite Lance and Cats cost the same you could always have 3x4 Cat

This seems to be the conventional wisdom, however I think having one BG and lancers is a good thing. They get where you need them faster and are about as effective.

Oddly enought he IC can be a disadvantage in this army. Generally you want to move first to get the legion in someones face. I would consider 3TC or FC and two TC. Otherwise I like the philosopy - win or loose with the legions, and don't buy a bunch of other medium foot, Cavalry, or second rate alli...
