There's also language some where in the JAP section (I don't have the book handy) that says that a unit contacted by a pursuer may evade unless in combat only as an overlap. There is a general rule of construction amongst us lawyer types (both rules and otherwise) that when both a rule and its excep...

Yup. Those summarize the two main competing interpretations. This one was purely academic (I missed the shots anyway) but for the life of me I can't tell which is correct from the text of the rules.

I'll go with Pete, as I was the one wanting to evade. :)

That does seem to make sense on a time and space basis. Pursuer gets to charge twice, target should evade twice.

Pursuit & evasion

I know this has come up before but my opponent and I had different recollections of the answer: Units 1 & 2 both evade from an initial charge. Unit 1 is caught. Unit 2 is not. Unit 1 fights in impact phase, and breaks. Unit 1's opponent pursues and contacts unit 2. Can unit 2 evade from the pursuit?

Orbs & # of stands

How many stands would a 10 stand unit in orb count as v. shooting. Rules don't seem to state clearly, and possible interpretations include 3 (1 stand wide when fighting x 3 in depth), 6 (2 stand wide frontage x 3 in depth) to all 10 (2 stand wide on one face x3 and 2 stand wide on rear face x2). Tho...

Cannae Scenario

Hi all,

I accepted a game from Whaco for the Cannae 216 BC (IA) scenario, in the mistaken belief that I had the correct scenario. I have the one off of the Cannae thread on this forum, but apparently that is the wrong one. Can anyone point me to the right one?

Thanks for all the advice guys. If I come, I'll probably try to come in a day early for some practice and to recover from the jet lag (I don't think anyone will want me going narcoleptic on top of their figures), and I'll definitely be in touch as things get closer with more questions on accomodatio...

Britcon 2010

Hi all, I'm thinking of crossing the pond for Britcon this year (the one in August, not April) and given the planning involved I wanted to make sure that I did everything correctly so that I didn't show up with my toys and not be able to play. My questions, in order, are: 1. Is there any sort of qua...

One thing that has occurred to me as I have been pondering this issue, is that many--even most--players get sloppy moving their light horse BGs. With a 7MU move and little need ever to take a CMT everyone knows that the Lh can get to where they need to be, and so both players eventually stop worryi...

Boston, MA (USA) Historical FOG Tournament - Sept. 12, 2009

There will be a historical round-robin Fields of Glory tournament at the Hobby Bunker in Malden, Mass. on September 12, 2009. The tournament will begin at 10 a.m. and consist of three rounds. The tournament will have a slightly unusual format. All armies (650 pts) will be provided, and will be paire...

To answer the first question, that was because the Ilkhanid player (me) assumed without looking that the Mongols would have steppes. Oops. In my defense, I'd swear that I've played against other Ilkhanids that used steppes, but that's probably because I never bothered to check... To answer th...

We had somewhat of an odd situation where a cav unit had looped all the way around the rear of a battleline and was trying to charge a unit in the rear but couldn't, because an routing enemy unit was smack in its path. He was trying to charge through it to get at the good-ordered unit on the other s...

Sounds like routers can turn into a road block then. Assuming that you can't get past them by contracting, you are stuck charging into them and waiting until the JAP to try to push through them. Do I have that right?

Terrain and routing questions.

Hi, Two quick questions that came up recently: 1. What happens when there are no legal places to put a remaining terrain piece, such as where it is impossible to place a piece in the rolled location without placing it within 4 MU of another piece? 2. Is it possible to charge routed troops? I know it...
