Re: Serbain PP's

Kirk's post seems to have disappeared, but the maintenance for each unit is the number next to the "spanner" on the build menu. Apparently each country gets a small amount of maintenance "free" (I think this is so Serbia/Belgium don't go into negative territory after their cities are all occupied if...

Going back to the 1.30 patch

If, like me, you've found that installing the 1.42 patch has resulted in the game basically being broken, here's a useful link where you can get the old 1.30 patch: http://www.gamershell.com/download_99477.shtml It's a pity to have to do this, because the 1.42 patch seemed to have a a lot of good id...

Re: Germany the only country paying maintenance

Any updates on this? It pretty much means that the 1.42 patch has broken the game for me, so if there's a quick fix or if I'm misunderstanding something I'd love to know.

Re: Serbain PP's

I'm not sure that does explain everything. AFAIK the free upkeep allowance is very low for all countries and wouldn't explain why every country on the map has zero maintenance fees despite having very large armies. Moreover I'm now playing on the 1.30 patch and this problem appears to have gone away...

Re: Germany the only country paying maintenance

I hope the downloads mean that someone is handling this. It's a game-breaking problem because it means that you (and the AI) can build infinitely large armies.

Re: Serbain PP's

This looks like the same zero maintenance problem we've been discussing elsewhere - check the management screen and see if Austria-Hungary is paying maintenance for their units. Likely the number under the "maintenance cost" row will be zero for everyone except Germany. It's a game-breaker because i...

Re: Any chances of a CEAW remake?

There's a whole load of mechanisms in C:TGW that would be great for a WWII game - not least the temporary fortification mechanism, the artillery, the ammunition points. I also love to see a beefed-up diplomacy interface (you should be able to influence allies on to your side). However, I really hope...

Re: Call for slow AI saves

Pretty much every turn is taking a long time at the minute. Here's one (see attachment). Haven't timed it but it was ~5 minutes. My processor is 2.1 GHz EDIT: But personally, the zero maintenance cost problem (see picture below) is way more of an issue. I can put up with long turns, but countries no...

Re: Congrats on the new patch + comments

Yeah, this is a pity because the patch really seems to have made the game a new challenge, so it's a pity to have a game-breaking fault like this in.

If you never played the original version, probably a good idea to de-install the patch and just play one of the earlier versions.

Re: Commander: The Great War 1.4.2 Official Patch releases!

I've been having some problems with this patch - looks like none of the countries are paying maintenance costs except Germany.

Re: Congrats on the new patch + comments

Yeah, after I posted this I started noticing problems with the game after this patch (though I'm still enjoying it). Check the below picture - as you can see only Germany is paying maintenance, all other countries have zero maintenance despite having large armies. I think the AI has the same issue b...

Germany the only country paying maintenance

For a while I'd been wondering why Germany's production stats were so low, then I checked the management screen - Germany is the only country showing maintenance costs, all other countries have zero costs despite having active armies. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb91/FOARP/OnlyGermanyPaysMain...

Congrats on the new patch + comments

Well done with the new patch, it's revived this game for me. Comments: 1) You still occasionally get the AI trying to defend a front-line hex with artillery. 2) The small garrisons do seem more than a bit useless. 3) The AI seems to be taking a long time to take turns compared to pre-patch. 4) More ...

Air power is, in general, wildly OP in C:TGW.

Re: Cannot download patch

EDIT: looks like it was the settings on my new router. Seriously, Orange blows . . . However, just setting up a some rules for NAT and lowering the router firewall seems to solve the problem.

Still isn't working. This is a new install of C:TGW. Not sure what the cause is.

Re: US army in 1918

The US army being weak is simply historical - they were totally unprepared for war, not least because of large part of the army they had was in Mexico. The tanks, guns, machine guns, and aircraft they used were all given to them by the Entente countries. It was only after the British and French def...

Re: Cannot download patch

Tried with IE as well, no joy. Just get a "cannot load page" message. The "Check for updates" feature still doesn't work. I'm not getting any messages or requests for permission from the firewall or anything so I'm not sure what's causing this.

Cannot download patch

I cannot download the patch either from the matrix website or using the "Check for updates" button on the game menu - doing so just gives an error message. Am using Chrome.
