I am going by the arrows at a right angle captioned "Full move straight forwards" and "shift sideways" on p45. I don't believe any shifty diagonal moves are allowed in Field of Glory.

I think you put it well there: Troops are hiding just inside a wood's edge. They are in shadow. Troops outside, in the full light, will not be able to see them clearly from more than a short distance (i.e beyond 2MU) - but if the concealed troops can see the edge of the wood, they can see further, a...

All at the same time? Just ally-generals rather than subs?

There are already a few revolting army lists to play with. These are famous armies that were successful for a time and could give a decent game, but most revolts didn't have a chance. Generic lists won't have any color - the circumstances of revolts will differ so much that I think one needs to star...

Re: OT - wargamming tables - fold out ?

Thanks for the idea Mike , I will aim to have a sunken table where I can lay a board over the top and make it dual purpose and be able to leave a game set up underneath. I will have to do some thinking. The top add-on was wood with full side panels. Primitive ASCII art of table/add on interface fol...

But if he's encouraging that third rank ( that cant really see the enemy that clearly) and making it "improve" its shooting, he should be able to encourage other archers in other circumstances, or encourage neither in either situation? Martin I asked the shooters. They felt their commanders are bet...

In Impact you pair up with his bases, so only 2 Cav would fight, one per Ellie.

I think if I were umpiring, I would say that any base contributing to a dice or POA in melee was "in melee", which is a reasonable definition in the absence of a formal one. It would be "in melee to its front" if the target of those dice was in front of it, not necessarily in contact. Hammy's view ...

What is the visibility of troops just inside a forest - say 1 MU from the edge? Can they be seen by anyone outside, or only by people within 2MU, and is visibility mutual - can they only see people within 2MU of them if there is any amount of forest, no matter how small, in the way? See scenario 4 ...

Thanks, Hammy, that makes sense and should be easy to play. Then in the Mnv phase the BG conforms to the front if possible or an overlap position and we are back to a normal situation. By extension can a 2+-wide BG hitting the side fight with 2 pairs in Impact by getting 2 bases stepped forward or f...

Hammy, I'm sorry I missed your long post since I had already started puzzling over the definition of melee. I take your point as being that picking over this melee definition is mistaken - that who counts in the later Melee Phase doesn't matter in the Impact Phase and issue is that only the front ra...

Line of Sight Visibility -- Forests

This is to follow-up a an unresolved thread from the Yahoo group about terrain visibility rules. I searched this forum for "forest" and didn't find anything on this. RULES: Forest on p131: "Troops wholly inside are only visible within 2 MUs. . . . Troops beyond a forest cannot be seen." On p132, "Te...

Some thoughts on target bases "already in melee": 1. The text and diagram on p 92-93 and the text on p84 talk about the front rank, overlap and second rank elements fighting in melee, but does not mention "melee"in relation to 3rd+ ranks who count as POA. 2. Does "already in melee" just mean in clos...

The narrower the theme, the more players will be excluded - particularly those with one or few armies (such as those relatively new to the period or the applicable scale). I would prefer broader periods encompassing several companion volumes, or thematically-driven matching in opens. I realize keen ...

They look like fun, not bad at all - just need to find some way to divert the peacekeepers from calling an armistice on the cusp of decision.

Imagine a LF BG, 3 wide 2 deep, perpendicular to the side edge and said BGs side edge right up against the edge of the board. The LF are also facing their own rear table edge. Offset behind them is an enemy BG at 45deg to their own long table edge, and facing the rear corner of the LF above. They e...

I'm sure Roger is right...if fighting only as an overlap, you don't pursue. Martin I have no vested interest either way, just trying to understand the rules. The Initial Pursuit rule says "An unbroken battle group, all of whose close combat opponents (except those only fighting it as an overlap) ha...
