I have a question about something though - how will it work in terms of me having some, but not other DLCs of FoG2? Will Empires only use core FoG2 army lists? My understanding is that AGEOD tried something very similar for their American Civil War game with the Take Command series. Ahh, so in the AJE engine , units were containers for “elements”. It sounds like these elements will translate to the Fog2 tactical units, or something similar? Bottom line is, with the unit variety we have, figuring out how to assemble an army against a particular enemy and making sure to fight on the terrain (region) of your choosing is quite important (and fun!). Having just an army with the larger aggregate combat power is often not enough.

why 2 years per turn? doesnt that mean your characters will die too fast? besides army could move quite a distance in two years, while here it looks like you only move to neighboring province is kinda strange... it was one of the big mistakes Creative Assembly did with Rome 2 Total War, so its kind...

Empires is definitively not only about combat. There is a very strong 'develop your civilization' feature into it. Plus decadence, the rise and fall of empires.
