Re: Handicap system for comps...

An option would perhaps be to give the beginner 800 points and the veteran 700? Less painting. Also, it might be an idea for beginners to discuss their army lists with more experienced players. The three major advantages of veterans are list design, deployment and tactics. Reducing the differential ...

Re: Scoring system for 2019 - Call for a vote...

When I started playing in FOG comps at the end of 2014 there were heading for 200 players in the FOG rankings. Now there are less than 70. I find that an alarming trend and, in the absence of any apparent effective action to try and reverse that, have made several posts, suggesting what might be do...

Re: Scoring system for 2019 - Call for a vote...

I can say I've got the best interests of FOG at heart and am trying to do my best to promote the rule set. Can you? Yes. Now I know you're pulling my leg! Chris this isn't Us vs Them. Tim does a great deal of work to help all rule sets by running the BHGS, Britcon and the rest. Just because he play...

Re: Scoring system for 2019 - Call for a vote...

I don't have a strong preference but I think the move to a 35-0 system encourages players to be more aggressive in army choice and use, so would favour keeping it. You're a very successful player, Graham, so whatever scoring system is used is almost irrelevant (although, given you pipped Paul Bartl...

I don't have a strong preference but I think the move to a 35-0 system encourages players to be more aggressive in army choice and use, so would favour keeping it. I am a novice player of MEG and aside from "what does it take to break the other player's army?" I don't care how many points I score. I...

Re: Britcon 2019 - What would you like to do?

Looks like 800 points has some traction. With that number we should be able to finish games in 3 hours on the whole. Would that work?

Re: FOG-AM Players' Association Chairperson...

I seem to have somehow become a member of this association without knowing what it is there to do. Is it UK? Global? Is it there to run things? If I come across someone who wants to join (or leave) what are the mechanisms?

Re: Britcon 2019 - What would you like to do?

I would suggest we use 800 points and have shorter games - perhaps 3 hours? Also, I think it is time to review why we have 6 games as the weekend is very crowded. The original rationale in the DBM days was to ensure that we'd have a "proper champion" i.e. to avoid someone getting the very lucky draw...

How to use Mamluk Egyptian

- very long post - How to use Mamluk Egyptian I won Britcon with Mamluks this year and I thought I’d give a detailed account of how the army works under version 3. Firstly, why use Mamluks? The competition was restricted to any army post 1050 AD with 900 points and relatively lengthy (3 and a half h...

Re: Charging in front / rear

Also not sure why you say the melee was 2 dice for your opponent. I count 5 bases in that BG and they are all eligible to fight. Because you haven't reformed you only get 1 dice back.

Re: Charging in front / rear

Yes just the base contacted should have turned when hit by the rear charge. the "Feeding more bases in" rule only allows you to expand to create an new file, or to contract to improve the POA of a file. Neither would apply here as turning a base is neither expansion nor contraction. The only way for...

Re: Charging in front / rear

The file with the base fighting to the rear when charged in the front. P92 POAs 6th bullet. "Close Combat POAs that require a minimum number of ranks only apply if ALL those ranks have the required capability and are facing in the same direction." The base facing to the rear isn't facing in the same...

Re: Fighting whilst in contact with routers

Had an unusual situation today, for us anyway, where an enemy unit broke during Impact and in the pursuit the winners contacted a fresh enemy with a base and remained in contact with routers with another base whilst maintaining unit integrity. During the melee phase can the winners count the base i...

Re: The new scoring system...

A question - is the intent of the discussion to increase the number of FoGAM v3 players in general or specifically to increase the number of competition players? I have no idea how many books have been sold so I have no clue how v3 is doing. From the Facebook group it seems that there are quite a n...

Re: The new scoring system...

FWIW, looking this morning there has been only one topic in the "list design" sub-form since V3 was published - and that was a rules query questioning whether the classification of Byzantine Cavalry in V3 was actually correct. Successful (or indeed "any") players sharing their lists and tactics for...
