Re: the nature of WMD weapons

And how do you suppose to storm (in game) the city equipped with these defences? By endless human wave attacks? Sometimes realism must give way to gameplay. Have you considered using artillery? Since units cannot heal in a city sieged by artillery you will eventually be able to bring any defender d...

Re: How much time this game eats from you?

You had BHG before the Messari came? Sounds like 1.6.3.
In 1.6.4 with the increased tech-cost I highly doubt that this is still possible.
The earliest I had seen a very-hard-AI get BHG in 1.6.4 was about turn 240.

Re: How much time this game eats from you?

Well, you basically had it in the bags since a long time and could have made military- or econ-victory in a few turns. Or you probably already had won and just continued on for some weird reason.

Re: How much time this game eats from you?

Since I've gotten this game in may 2014 I've spent more hours on it than on any other game in that time. Don't be fooled by the "only" 490ish hours I've clocked according to steam. The amount of hours I spent with the dev-version easily can double or triple that. Of course a lot of these hours are n...

Re: Endless Messari invasion?

It's not endless. But on Very High-Alien-Aggression and with a lot of strong Factions on the map the invasion will be longer and the portals respawn several times.
This gets worse when there's less space for them to make sense spawning.

They will eventually cease.

Re: Beta r5948 broken rendering

I had thought that there had been a hotfix but apparently not. I can tell you how to workaround it, tho. Switch to non-beta and have a look for a file called "Ground.xml" (am not at home so can't look where this file is located) Make a backup of this file. Now switch back to beta and overwrite the b...

Re: Cannot Connect to master server bug

There is a post on top of the tech-support-subforums stating how to properly report a bug.
The most important thing is to provide the log files. Those most likely hold valuable information as to why the master-server could not be contacted.

Re: [MAC] Can't Update to Latest Beta

We wanted to set up a multiplayer game with 1.6.4 beta and had a user of steam among us. Unfortenately she couldn't start the game anymore once moved on 1.6.4 back on 1.6.3 it worked again. So is there a steam-specific change in this version that might cause this? I'd like to help but as you might k...

Re: Game Freezes

Have you created the AVG-exception for both "Pandora.exe" and "PandoraServer.exe"?

It clearly looks like the same problem that the people with "AVAST" had.
It prevents Pandora.exe to communicate with PandoraServer.exe and vice versa.
And that's exactly what your log-file also says.

Re: About diplomacy and war declarations

I way to break this mutual piece scenario, it might make sense to add some variations in the algorithms that different factions use. I.e. both Ambassadors and the Solar Dynasty use an algorithm that makes sense, but different. Being industrial, Solar Dynasty could perhaps judge other factions on th...

Re: About diplomacy and war declarations

Seems I'm gliding from one extreme to another. In my current dev-version AI seems too peaceful. I'll have to let it give me the detailed analysis of the situation and what lets them come to the conclusion that they shouldn't declare war. Based on these numbers I shall be able to tweak is. Thing is: ...

Re: My journey of improving the AI

I've been tinkering with tactical improvements of the AI. But a mean bug had prevented me from progressing for quite some time. Now it is finally fixed. I'll do some more testing but I want to announce what you can expect in the future: The AI now will be way more aggressive in defensive-Scenarios. ...

Re: Silly Question but, still need it answered

This question is not silly at all because finding the folder where to do the modding really is the most unintuitive part about all it and noone could really do it without getting it explained beforehand. Open your Explorer and type in "%appdata%" in the directory-bar. This shall bring you to an othe...

Re: About diplomacy and war declarations

It would be relatively easy to have the AI consider war-declarations against those with an alliance differently. However, alliances don't really work as one might expect. All they really do is granting the vision of your ally and acting as another non-aggression-pact. There are no obligations to act...

Re: About diplomacy and war declarations

First of all, I have to admit that there probably has been a bug that made the AI much more aggressive than it was intended. I say probably because I don't know which version it went in. It is, however, fixed in the latest Civforum-Patch: http://www.civforum.de/showthread.php?96495-Zwischenpatches&p...

Re: My journey of improving the AI

At least they can be probe, then the AI knows what to really send. That's what the AI did before and it simply didn't turn out to be a good idea most of the time. Yes they can get lucky and find a city that is so badly defended that the probing units can take it right away but most of the time it w...

Re: My journey of improving the AI

Just wanted to inform that I'm on something that feels really important and might be one of the biggest remaining AI-weaknesses. It is about how the AI executes attacks on cities. Currently when a war starts the AI will send all units that are not assigned to defensive tasks, to attack a target. Pre...

Re: My journey of improving the AI

This already is taken into account. There is an amount of workers, miners and scientists that the AI will strife for. They are taken from a pool of available workers, miners and scientists where each of them has a value for how good he is at that and they are sorted in a list from which the most eff...
