Re: The Rally Point (discussion, questions and some highbrow philosophising)

Have the rules changed regarding rallies or have I just misremembered them? I've just had an opposition unit rally for the second time after breaking. He broke initially and then rallied and then broke a second time and has now rallied again. I didn't think this was possible. I haven't bothered cha...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion, questions and some highbrow philosophising)

If the unit hadn't taken many casualties, multiple rallies wouldn't be out of the question, particularly if a better morale grade or with a general. I don't recall ever reading multiple rallies weren't possible. I'm not describing multipe rallies, but a unti rallying after having been broken twice....

Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

Div C. Karvon (Thracian, Triballi 350 BC with Geta allies) defeated MikeMarchant (Roman 199 BC with Greek (Western) allies) 41-16 for a 4-0 win. Great report, Karvon, but you missed out the bit where you slaughtered my cavalry with your lights at the beginning of the battle, before I'd even finishe...

Re: Biblical: winners post your results here . . .

Division C MikeMarchant (Greek Asiatic 550-461 BC) defeated gamercb (Thracian (Getae) 680-330 BC): 42/8 Really bad luck, Colin. This was the perfect demonstration of how RNG can ruin a game. A victory almost entirely due to luck on my part. There was nothing Colin could do; he couldn't even change t...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Having thought on the issue of Poisson distribution, which I can't enageg with from a mathematical point of view but can from a philosiphical viewpoint, I ask the following: Statistical clumping is a phenomenon which can and does occur naturally. Statistical clumping is also a phenomenon which can ...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Supporting universal sufferage is certainly not unusual. Supporting it and then wanting to subvert the result shouldn't be unusual either but your views on this matter are increasingly common too sadly......... Still we shall agree to differ on this point and at least agree that FoG2 is a fine game...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Fair enough. So we are left with the position of the status quo without any evidence that beyond such a minority there is any demand to change that status quo. After all, as someone who sets such store by "winning the vote for the common man and women" I am sure you would never want to ignore the m...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

So vocal minorities "won the vote for common man and women"....they "abolished slavery and established rights in many areas. You agree with these measures so are happy to give vocal minorities the credit for bringing them about. Where vocal minorities "influenced directions we might not approve of"...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

I agree with Martin on the nature of argument. Coming from a philosphical backgroumd, argument is the normal method of discourse in order, not only to persuade but also to explore and to learn. In any argument I hope to learn something of my interlocutor's position. My position often shifts as a res...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Mike all that has been said is obviously true with regards statistical phenomena. The phenomena that you experience would not be that noticeable if the probability of the events occurring was higher. The underlying problem remains that the probability attributed to certain events is too high. Play ...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

I think my argument is probably misplaced, because it's not really the probability of an event occurring in isolation that bugs me, and I expect that might be true of others too, but the clustering of such events. If an event is very unlikely, then clearly it will still occur (hopefully rarely), bu...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Same impossible series happen to me too; i think, after several try, disparity between the probability reported by game and real result, found is trouble in conversione from percentage number (58% ie), in d6 RNG simulation Normal RNG system applied linear probability, BUT, when need to add 2 roll f...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

There often seems to be a disparity between the probabilities reported by the game and the results seen on the field of battle, but I say seems for good reason. I am beginning to suspect that the fault may lie not in the game mechanics (although we can still argue over the likelihood of any particu...
