New computer for Fog2

Ok, it may be time for a new computer. I currently have an intel core 2 duo Cpu e8400@3 ghz. I am looking at an intel core i5 2400 @3.1ghz. The e8400 has 2 cores and 2 threads vs the I5 with 4 cores and 4 thread capability. Here is the benchmark comparisons http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel...

Re: Fog II and Pike and Shot II?

FOG II definitely has the tabletop look of the 4 to 12 to 20 figures for a formation. Yet if you asked a miniatures player if he would prefer that formation to be 12 figures or 600 figures and he would say 600 every time. The only reason he accepts 12 figures is because of money, time and space-(pro...

Disappeared unit during PBEM

Playing multiplayer. I opened my turn this morning to look at the situation but didn't have time to play the turn. So I watched the replay and noticed a light cavalry unit which had pursued off map had returned. So I logged out. Then tonight, I did my turn and noticed the light cavalry unit was gone...

Re: Reward for historical Formation

---It would be great if troops get a reward for being in the formation they are trained for. --- Actually, troops shouldn't be rewarded for doing what they were trained to do and were expected to do historically. Game parameters should already assume optimal performance when units are used in a his...

Re: PoA/Percentages and Outcomes just don't match up

Thanks for that link of probabilities. And yes, Triari are elite vs superior. That explains a lot. Looking at the stats, clearly they had a run of good luck but not statistically improbable. I think the higher morale of the Roman army vs most P&S armies is why we are seeing more resilience with disr...

Re: Resilient Gauls?

I suspect some of these armies, you have to play in their native terrain. Instead of playing agriculture, try hills or forest or mountain terrain. Suddenly, that wimpy army can put up quite a fight against the Romans. Just starting playing the Spanish army and they have a real tough time vs the roma...

Re: PoA/Percentages and Outcomes just don't match up

Maybe my post should be in a separate thread but for the moment it is here. I just had a fragged, superior Triari unit attacked from 3 sides pass a minimum of 6 hold tests over 2 turns. Note that is a minimum-may have been as high as 7-9 holds. I haven't attempted to determine what are the odds for ...

Re: PoA/Percentages and Outcomes just don't match up

I doubt it but I must admit I have been wondering if the AI gets some sort of morale bonuses after seeing fragged units hold out for far longer than I expected.

Re: Slow mouse and tech specs

Thanks Zakblood, I will give it a shot over the next few days. Keeping my fingers crossed.
slow, but usable on about the same
That is pretty much what I have got. However as far as I can tell, I meet the hardware requirements. So I am hoping some tweaking will pick up performance a bit.

Slow mouse and tech specs

My mouse moves considerably slower than normal while playing the game. I have tried some of the forum suggestions which has improved mouse performance but it still moves slower than comfortable. It is playable but trying to my patience and sometimes I will miss a mouse click because the mouse is not...

Re: Slingers vs Javelinmen

Well I don't know but I must say I have enjoyed the debate. The various viewpoints are certainly interesting and thought provoking. Ps: XLIV.—In that legion there were two very brave men, centurions, who were now approaching the first ranks, T. Pulfio, and L. Varenus. Anyone remember Pullos and Vare...

Javelinmen without javelins

I was playing the Roman 105 to 25 BC army list. I bought some javelinmen and then noticed during the game that they don't have javelins. They are medium foot with the light spear POA only-no javelin missile capability. I was wondering if that is correct?

And lots of camels with arrows for resupply
Yes, I was wondering about how arrow resupply was handled historically. I assume resupply was done.

Re: Cannot buy game

I had the same problem yesterday. I checked with the bank this morning and they said the order never reached their system. I tried again this morning and it worked. Maybe the system was overloaded yesterday or just a glitch. Either way, I would recommend trying again today.

Sheesh, I take a 2 month break and I miss a tournament. Probably for the best, my cutoff is early TYW. Once firepower dominates, 500 man firepower pike and blocks, I am out.

I was wondering if we can expect the new Pike and Shot (Rome?) game this year? Pike and Shot is the best game I have seen in several years. I am definitely looking forward to the next game as well.

also the AI does not seem able to use the Swedish Salvo infantry effectively, they tend to hang around and get involved in fire fights, when they should really go straight into an assault. Actually I use my Swedish salvo infantry in firefights prior to charges. With the attached artillery and conce...
