Re: Adding colour and immersion.

There has never been an over abundance of inspirational leaders, at any time but I was thinking more in terms of form and function rather than inspiration. Having said that, there were certainly some. In the ECW you would certainly include Cromwell, Fairfax and Prince Rupert. All armies function on ...

Adding colour and immersion.

I am just starting to work my way through the tutorials (have achieved victories in the first three, at level 3, but have been badly beaten in the fourth) also tried a small random battle and got soundly trounced in that as well. This is proving to be an excellent game, with a really decent AI, an e...

Re: Game Speed

Another vote for selectable slower speed. What's the rush?

Just getting started with this and would like to absorb, more easily, what is going on.

Re: Expansion campaigns?

This looks to be an exciting game that covers ground barely touched by PC games and comparatively lightly covered by conventional board wargames. However it seem a shame that these great battles can only be played from the perspective of a single side vs the AI. I strongly suspect that I will be for...

Re: Our Wish Lists

Named 'Characters' with various attributes that relate to the activities in the game, i.e. generals, assassins, diplomats, explorers, spies etc. These are the important stars of the story, as in any book or film or, for that matter, in real life. They should be in short supply and would have the abi...

Re: Battle Cards

A useful blueprint for this type of game would, IMO, be the following: http://www.myabandonware.com/game/sword-of-aragon-s5 The rules manual is also available to DL. As you might expect for a 23 year old game, the graphics are minimal but the game had huge depth, a very decent AI and a surprisingly ...

My Neopolitans have become German (I think)

Just back to playing FoG after a long break; fully patched-up. Built a 600pt Condotta Naples Army, loaded and tested it; all fine. Issued a challenge; on starting the game I find that the names of all my troops are in German! The rest of the text is in English. So no big problem from a play point of...

Apologies to all but due to some drastic changes in the workplace and the fact that I will be away at the end of this month for at least a week, I think it is only fair to pull out sooner than later. I simply won't have the time to devote to this tournament. Perhaps petergarnett could take my place?...

I have solved the problem by using system restore and and using the upgrade option again. Looks to be working fine now but will try the .exe file solution if there are any problems. Thanks.

not true, maybe i'm the only one asking for a fixed casualty rate per hit received...but it's not properly "nobody" as it was already said, the randomness of combat is already present in the first dice (to hit) throws, don't see why players need to be exposed to lady luck's caprices a second time (...

This means the digital version can much better deal with the gradual errosion of battlegroups. The % damage may be off but if we change it there could be serious balance issues. We can certainly have a look at it. Maybe we should make each category have less variance and not overlap. E.g. 1 hit sho...

The biggest factor is, as you post, understanding the game mechanics and there are plenty of us that will help I'm sure. What would really help is an up-to-date and comprehensive manual that explained them. Not the inadequate mish mash of partially out of date help files and change logs that have b...

I struggle to differentiate between the effect of missile fire for all bows in FoG. They all seem much of a muchness and seem to produce broadly the same results; 0% here, 1% there, with a few 3% now and again and, once in the blue moon, an 8% or 9%. How a medieval longbow, in the hands of a veteren...

There are several issues but the three major ones are: 1. The wild swings in the combat results. This is the primary reason for my lessened enthusiasm. I've written quite a bit on this on other threads, so I won't belabor the point further. Suffice it to say that I've started to consider it a game ...

Phases would be great but I have a feeling that the FoG system, for the PC, is very much oriented towards very fast playing games, with the emphasis on both fast and game. Unfortunately this has conspired to work against realism in the way that the TT seems to have captured it. A great shame and mis...

Multiple attackers; Single defender.

Having been playing FoG fairly intensively for over a year and thoroughly enjoying it, I might add, I have, non-the-less, found several game mechanics which I am not very happy with. One of these, of course is the ridiculous range of outcomes inherent in the combat system resulting in oft repeated i...

The developers have not commented on why they chose the movement rates in the PC game, but have stated that detached leaders were to much hassle -- something I disagree with. Doing away with BG minimums without making adjustments elsewhere to compensate, was also a big mistake in my opinion. That's...
