Re: 3218 hours in am my first real game gripe- fall back blocking

+1 Hard to justify the logic though. Would you be willing to implement a "fall back in place" only when the unit is the aggressor? The primary issue right now is the abuse of fall back blocking is the "cheap" way it is being used to strip ZoCs off of powerful units that otherwise would still have t...

Re: 3218 hours in and my first real game gripe- fall back blocking

I'd like to reiterate my suggestion as when I wrote it the first time I had an unhappy baby on my lap and it came out less coherent than I would have liked. If lights are blocking a fallback or a pushback: [/u] - Friendly lights will evade even if they have already evaded this turn. - Enemy lights ...

Yes, in 1) you could just have a cohesion check if a friendly unit blocks your fallback and not enemy javelin cav, etc.
+1
Hard to justify the logic though.

Re: Fatal Application Exit

Hi Brian, In such cases we need to see the ErrorLog.txt file from immediately after the error in order to have any idea what the issue might be. The ErrorLog.txt file is overwritten each time you open the program, so you need to find the date stamped version of it corresponding to the crash. It will...

Re: Slitherine Tournament Game Bugged

Ok so this time I loaded the turn the two units that previously rallied and triggered the end game at the start didn't rally and the turn played out and uploaded normally (game still ongoing now). Now if I understand correctly the enemy units rallying and routing should have happened at the beginni...

Re: Move, Discover, and then Undo?

The Undo code counts the number of units visible before the move, and after, and only forbids an undo if more are visible after the move. Otherwise the code would have to be a hell of a lot more complicated. This does, however, mean that occasionally the checksum fails to prevent an undo after reve...

Re: Hellenic vs. Hellenistic?

OK, thanks Richard. So it seems that it can be assumed that the Hellenistic ethnic group (again, for in-game purposes, not its historical relevance) is not used at all? Not currently. True. Good placeholder for future updates/DLC. Or opportunities for own modding. :) Actually I did not know that th...

Re: Hellenic vs. Hellenistic?

Thanks, gaius21: I'm aware of all that though. My question concerns the difference within Field of Glory: Empires between and use of Hellenic versus Hellenistic , since I cannot find any factions or provinces that are Hellenistic ; both the Diadochi and the provinces are Hellenic . Is the Hellenist...

At the moment, apparently the system flags up the 10 worst cases of excess downloads
Actually it is 40. (10 are shown on the front panel, but the code that flags up potential issues uses the top 40.)

Re: Hellenic vs. Hellenistic?

hellenic = of mainland greece/colonies stock if we are talking about ethnicity hellinistic = greek speaking locals from the conquered ex persian empire that the epigonoi carved up. guess the local aristocrasy became more or less hellenised, the common folk less so. since the whole era from the last...

Re: dkalenda has been expelled from the tournament for multiple re-loading of turns during his matches . . .

Why not save every move/combat outcome locally? If you reload the game, it has the moves saved and goes through the turn until the point of crash. Sure, in theory one could hack one's own program to override this, but most players aren't going to have the expertise or the inclination to do this. Th...

Re: Caledonian Cataphracts?

I would be surprised too to see Cataphract in a distant corner of the world like Caledonia. Historically, the only Cataphract-like cavalry in the western Mediterranean in time of FOGE is Iberian lancers who served under Hannibal in 2nd Punic War. They easily overwhelmed Roman counterpart at the bat...

Re: dkalenda has been expelled from the tournament for multiple re-loading of turns during his matches . . .

Unfortunately that would be an utterly enormous task and would not be a good user experience as it would have to upload the turn after every player action. It also probably wouldn't give any additional protection as at best it would just make the cheating more time consuming as you'd have to go com...

Re: 3218 hours in and my first real game gripe- fall back blocking

The primary concern with that is that Lancers who already are a major obstacle to foot can now just sit in place and ZoC infantry out forever. Hence why I believe the harsher CT penalty should be applied. There is no doubt that that has a certain logic, but similar rules were abused in DBM and Tabl...

Re: 3218 hours in and my first real game gripe- fall back blocking

Ah, how simple and elegant....if a unit is blocked from falling back it disengages and simply stays in its square..Are there issue with a fix like this? Is it a major coding challenge? The primary concern with that is that Lancers who already are a major obstacle to foot can now just sit in place a...

Re: LoS for whole army?

I absolutely agree on the "seeing the LOS from the enemy army point of view" part. When it comes to "the Line of Sight (LoS) for the army as a whole", in my view it neither reduces skill nor is unrealistic, since for the former perspective it's simply a matter of avoiding having to go through a cum...
