As i said pike is a formation weapon, this means is worst to work as indivual weapon... a spear is more capable in melee because his use is not limited to formation like pike... at same time is less effective compared with pike VS impact. Right now, some armies have very little incentive to keep their general out of combat. Armies with lots of pike or warbands benefit a lot more from having the general fighting than having him actually commanding. I feel that this is unfortunate. Perhaps something could be done to make the decision ...

And this is why i dont like the new evasion system, you have have enemy at 2 squares and him can magically catch you after evade 2 squares more. If units can disengage after suffer casualties no problem but now for a light unit cached like this is his dead... How would light infantry, after sprinti...

I can have a heavy cavalry unit evading enemy heavy calvary all the map and never catched while lights are catches by other heavy cavalry unit... even is not rare see heavy foot catching lights that they made evade...

I know is not a perfect source, but show that pike value is in formation and that as offensive weapon to deal damage is not very effective... you need enemy impale in pikes to have the best damage dealing in the unit and this is only in impact that is where in game impact heavy foot have the chance ...
