Re: Battlefield Europe - Best Mod so far for me

OK, now to the actual AAR - there will be spoilers - Phase I (1941): (A) Blitzkrieg in the East to capture Moscow surround Kiev and Leningrad; Finns to aurround and prepare to take Petrozavodsk (B) Afrika: hold-off and destroy British at Halfaya Pass; start clearing East Med. of enemy ships; (C) Wes...

Battlefield Europe - Best Mod so far for me

This is my 2nd playthrough. First, let me congratulate McGuba on his accomplishment. I've played all available PzC official scenarios and several mods multiple times, and this to me is by far the most interesting scenario/mod. There is complexity - many units, tasks, surprises, and the sheer scale o...

Re: US Corps advice

Purposefully designed traps of all sorts are the key: 1) fighter traps (expose a unit, but have an invisible fighter and/or AA behind it) 2) tank and even infantry traps (hidden heavy artillery behind an exposed unit) 3) lure the tanks into rough terrain and finish them off with infantry Also, pay s...

Re: Tipps for playing the Battlefield Europe mod

One quick tactical question: if all required hexes for the siege of Leningrad are occupied at the beginning and the end of the turn, but units were moved during the turn(the unit that occupied a hex was moved, and then replaced by another unit), is the siege maintained?

Re: Tipps for playing the Battlefield Europe mod

McGuba, first let me echo many who have played this mode and expressed gratitude for your gift to all of us. This is such a well designed, thoughtful mod that never ceases to amaze me with the level of historical detail and accuracy, balance, and similarity to real-life situation. Not to mention tha...

Re: Tipps for playing the Battlefield Europe mod

I am about to re-start Barbarossa, and after reading several AAR's and tips, I still have a few fundamental start questions before going down the wrong path (I had to re-start because I upgraded too many inf units into pioniere with wheels, while spending too much - this answers one of my previous q...

Re: Battlefield Europe - Operation Barbarossa (Field Marshal

Gen Werner,

I've noticed that you deployed a long range arty on Sicily. Did you get lucky and obtain a ranged hero on one of your arty pieces in previous campaigns? I cannot find such a unit.

Thx,
VG

Re: Battlefield Europe - Operation Barbarossa (Field Marshal

I've just embarked on this long journey and it is fun. The feeling and the style of play is quite different from pre-packaged campaigns (I've done all of them multiple times on levels up to Rommel and with the old rules Manstein). The sheer size of the map and the number of units dictate careful dep...

Re: Panzer Corps 2

Variable AI deployment. The biggest problem is that once you play a scenario, it becomes predictable and therefore useless for subsequent plays. Not knowing what to expect in any given play would make the game "evergreen"

Re: US Corp Close Terrain Caps

I'm pretty sure the list of terrain effects is listed in the Library. On the PC it is possible to check the attack prediction in detail - that will show the effect of terrain, weather experience etc. Otherwise on the PC you press L after a combat and it gives you the breakdown of the last attack. T...

Re: US Corp Close Terrain Caps

Just checked, cap is 5 on mountains in GC, not 7. makes a difference. Maybe desert mountains are different.

Re: US Corp Close Terrain Caps

Thanks for all the hints, using most of them myself). However, it's really challenging in the early game fielding 1 weak tac bomber (prediction kill 1) and 1 weak start bomber (1-2 suppression) against tigers and advanced stug's. Even a trap with any unit backed up by arty, except maybe heroed SP 13...

US Corp Close Terrain Caps

Was there a change in initiative caps when armored units end up on hills, forest etc.? Not even my experienced HW infantry can get a clean shot?! Just looked up, and a Stug has initiative cap of SEVEN! This is more like 1 or 2 in GC. Isn't it enough that US tanks are overwhelmed by German armor, not...

Re: Briefing 'Tone' and Errata

My, my, aren't we sensitive... Is this a part of the new political correctness? Historically accurate, for example, gen. Patton used very "direct" language when addressing his subordinates. I guess great leaders like Patton could not survive, let alone succeed in the brave new world we liv...

Ah, thanks! Rather stupid that the default reverts to UK troops, which are not part of the equation.

I've just got permission to deploy my core on day 4 after the French got clobbered at Faid. It clearly says that I can deploy 12 units. I have 11 units in reserve, but when I try to buy any unit it says "not enough unit slots"???

Re: Managing Soft Cap - Open Slots

It is a good idea. Some points though... I really wish they'd just drop in a little in-game calculator, meter or other means of letting you know if you're below, approaching, or over the cap. Temptation, temptation. I'd leave a few slots open so I could add extra tanks, artillery, fighters, etc as ...

Managing Soft Cap - Open Slots

A lot has been said on this point, but mainly regarding not upgrading units too soon, not over-strengthening units too much (especially expensive ones; SE units exception because they do not count towards the soft cap), and disbanding infantry SE units so that all SE units are tanks. However, I foun...
