Re: Why no shooting weapons for Elizabethan light horse?

That's a bit odd as the army lists say no light horse in Ireland. I've read about demi-lancers being used in the forces sent to aid the Dutch, but nothing about the light horse. So, no extra weapons to use against the Dastardly Don landing in England in 1588 then? (Speaking of which, I would suggest...

Where do archers put their stakes when defending artillery?

This is a rules clarification, generated by an incident in a game at Warfare 2017, and a reminder to Nik to look at what happens when archers are defending artillery and they have defensive stakes. Do these go:- (a) in front of the guns (on the basis that troops defending guns notionally have their ...

Why no shooting weapons for Elizabethan light horse?

Whilst it is good that the army lists have now been amended to allow English border horse to have crossbow/pistol in the early/later Henrician armies (as per their Scottish cousins), can someone explain why no shooting weapons are allowed for the Elizabethan army? I'm told there was a deliberate rea...

Re: Warfare 18/19 November 2017

Do make sure that you pay for your parking, as otherwise you're likely to get slapped with a £60/£100 penalty charge. Yes, Reading are pretty fascistic when it comes to fining motorists - I'm currently fighting two penalties for driving in a bus lane in the town centre at 06:30 on a Sunday morning....

I'm in. I'm seeing Patrick this weekend, and will confirm him (or not) on Saturday evening - he'll need to borrow an army. I will have Mad Max and the boys in blue.

Re: Updates - where we are at

How close are we to getting a final version of the rule revision? At the moment at the club we have split between the few competition players who use the new rules whilst the majority are sticking with the original rule set with minor revisions. Hopefully when a final version is published this will...

Re: Cardiff

Keith - I think it has always been Richard who has organised it, although he played something else this year. I have to say that I preferred this year's venue to the hotel - the playing area was much too cramped at the latter. Should we consider going down the route we took at Devizes earlier this y...

Re: Badcon 2018

Also, given what happened at Devizes earlier this year, should we maybe look at a "big singles armies" event, rather than doubles?

Is this "Godendag" in January? I would have thought so, if the period/theme is well chosen.

OK, bit of a quick and dirty response but I'm afraid its all I have time for. <snip.> So I guess ultimately it is a case of YMMV when interpreting the evidence - and mine does from yours in these cases (FWIW I can see where you are coming from and they were valid to raise). Not at all, thanks for t...

Re: Southern League FOGR 2017 at Southampton

Just out of interest (sparked by a thread on another forum), but how many games ended with one army (at least) completely broken?

[For the record, we were discussing army sizes and their impact on tournaments with >1 game per player per day.]

Re: Detaching shot from Late Tercios

Indulging in a spot of "threadomancy" here, how does it work with two "mixed" LTs of pike, shot and bow - specifically 6:4:2 - and two LTs of 6 pike and 6 shot?
