New 3d warships - Cruiser, Destroyer, Minesweeper
Gents,
I've been experimenting with 3d warships (with plenty of advice, help & encouragement from Amaris, Richcat, Pip, TwoEyes & Tim1966 along the way... Huge thanks guys!).
So far, this has resulted in injecting steroids into Slith's Fairmile_B and MGB models to give them a new lease of life as S-class and Hunt class Royal Navy destroyers, and turning a couple of static 3d barge models into freighters and landing craft (for the Dieppe Raid -> viewtopic.php?f=87&t=42347)
However, I need some seriously hot 3d warships to try out a new Guadalcanal & Eastern Solomons campaign (viewtopic.php?f=87&t=41434&p=389723)
I've just got hold of some very cool 3d models for a WW2 cruiser, destroyer and minesweeper (viewtopic.php?f=104&t=43437&p=411626#p411626)
These are low poly (1,500-2,500 polygons) models to work with Slith's BA game engine.
Does anybody know how (have access to eg. MAX) to convert these from their original .3ds format into .s3f (or .s4f) for Battle Academy?
Sorry guys... Had to remove access to the original 3ds files...
Am working them up with Amaris and we hope to release in new mods for BA...
Please contact me if you're interested in helping to develop something with these...
CRUISER (please create as 3 square length, centred on middle square, facing forwards)
DESTROYER (please create as 2 square length, overlapping forwards & back, to centre on middle square, facing forwards)
MINESWEEPER (please create as 1 to 1.5 square length, facing forwards)
Sorry to ask (I only have a simple Mac and no clever software)... Am really grateful for your help!

Re: New 3d warships - Please help with .3ds -> .s3f?
Very nice!
I could not resist doing some tests:
Remember : I don't have any 3D skill!
But the rendering is already good, for an amateur

Nice, what soft did you use to convert the formats? Also annoying request, can you make it bigger to see how it would look filling the tile or even a bit more?

I use the trial version of 3DSMAX
I'm working on the size of the differents ships (DD, CA and CM):
As I do not have the original texture filesn I use the texture of MGB ships. A true artist could do much better.

Ohh you have bought them on Turbosquid: http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3ds ... hip/630769Amaris wrote:@ John: where are you found this models? i'm looking for the texture file associated with the model.

$29.90 by model
I have already 7 types of ships on my naval mod. And not counting submarines. So seven ships per side, fourteen models.
If I do the same thing, my wife will kill me.

How cool does that look!
Maybe, once Rommel is out, I can look at allowing multiple turret objects (I think we would need to stick with them all facing the same way, but it would still look pretty cool).
Cheers

Hey Amaris! Yes, you caught me.Amaris wrote:Ohh you have bought themAmaris wrote:@ John: where are you found this models? i'm looking for the texture file associated with the model.

I've been looking EVERYWHERE for decent low poly WW2 warships and these are the best that I've found so far. I'd hoped you might enjoy 'em?
Sure, I also have a low poly carrier, a landing craft mother ship and a tanker/freighter.
It's suddenly occurred to me that we might not be allowed to post these (Turbosquid) so tell me if you're interested, and I'll PM you more?
I suspect the license terms permit me (and co-developer partners ) to use 'em, but otherwise we should probably remove the .3ds files above.
Still haven't found a decent battleship model in low poly yet (lots in mega poly but BA can't handle that). Am still hunting!
Shall we PM and work this? How cool will NAM be in 3d?
Meanwhile... Please, please, please could you do me a massive favour?
Can you re-scale the cruiser to be 3 full squares, and the destroyer to be 2 full squares, although both remain centred on a single central square.
Your minesweeper is perfect!! Nice job!!

Can you imagine how incredible these cruisers/destroyers are going to look, when both turrets can turn to point at a shore object to fire a broadside... Totally wow!

PS. I believe that I may have secured a source for a full set of reasonably realistic, but still low poly, US and Japanese Pacific warships, including battleships, carriers, light and heavy cruisers, destroyers, merchantmen, etc... More to come...Amaris wrote:Ohh you have bought themAmaris wrote:@ John: where are you found this models? i'm looking for the texture file associated with the model.

Re: New 3d warships - Cruiser, Destroyer, Minesweeper
@Pip, I've noticed that when Slith's default warships, eg. the Fairmile_B or MGB sink in Battle Academy, they're lowered deeper into the water.
How do we control the 'depth' of a unit, ie. it's vertical positioning on the battle map, so that we could hide the red part of the hull (and the props, lol) below the waterline?

This is defined by the 3D model.GottaLove88s wrote:@Pip, I've noticed that when Slith's default warships, eg. the Fairmile_B or MGB sink in Battle Academy, they're lowered deeper into the water.

As I enlarged the ship, I tried to keep the hull in the water.
