Lists that should be good, but are not... Or are just pants!

Seems to be a running theme in my list choices, so let's have 'em...
Those lists you want to try, but know are awful. Or have tried and are awful. Or should be good, but are not!
My list so far includes:
Poles: that whole overpriced hussar out of theatre thing...
Sri Lankan Hindu Indian: No hitting power, poor bows, no armoured cav, no superior.
Henrician English (both): Don swears it's not all that good.
Elizabethan English: not tried, but been warned off.

What others have we found!
(And no 'anything Nigel would use' options)

That being said, it beat Koreans on Thursday, and they (censored) dogs don't they?

Agree re-Poles and Harry''s boys. I also think the NMA underwhelm. I am sure there are others.

Thanks, guys - I'm planning to take New Model Army to the Oxford SL round at the end of April, and Early Henricians to our SL round in late September! That should be fun......

My all-time duff contestant (so far - ask me again in October) is Later German States/Bavarians from the Duty & Glory lists. Other than a single Guard infantry unit, everything is average, or can be poor if you are feeling really masochistic, although "local" rules occasionally allow you to upgrade half the horse to superior. Results to date (all doubles competitions):-
- 12th out of 12 at the 2014 Abingdon Doubles
(to be fair, had my partner not failed a DR of 1 with the very last roll of the fourth game, giving us a second win instead of a mutual auto-break/draw, we would have finished at least 8th instead, things were that tight at the bottom)
- 5th out of 12 at Devizes 2015
(one point away from being 4th; however, we later realised we had an illegal army, with only 2 six-packs of Ave MF instead of 3 - oops! )
-14th out of 14 at Usk 2016
(this despite actually winning one game 21-4; we not only lost the other three, but got the three lowest scores - 0, 1, and 2 - of not just the FoG:R competition, but any of the others being run that weekend as well!).

We've managed mid-table mediocrity with everything else we've used, so we're fairly sure (ok, we'd like to think  ) that it isn't us.

So, Bavarians: nice uniforms, crap army. You've been warned.

Henrician English against Flodden Scots if the English are uphill and the Scots disordered sliding down a wet hill and across a stream then you should win.

I have to take back what I said about the New Model - two winning draws 12-8 and 11-9 (both of which would have been bigger with a longer game) against 5th and 2nd, and one defeat 14-6 (largely the result of 8 consecutive failed Cohesion Tests, including three double-drops), in three games at Oxford. Actually looking forward to trying them out again.

I now have a cavalry-less Mughal army for Leighton Buzzard (June 5th), something Nigel has chosen for Devizes (July 16th/17th), 1690s Bavarians for Ilford (July31st), and Early Henrician for Southampton (September 25th). Should be interesting.

Revise my estimation of Henrician, I'd say 6/10 as a list, as long as your not meet Maximilian!

Swiss may have to be added to the heap, especially if there are average/superior restrictions!

Actually, in the wrong hands, even elite/superior Swiss are very beatable.

Aren't they Vespasian28?

Oh yes!

Two Superior kiels of Swiss routed by artillery before even making contact. Excellent gunnery from my opponent and even worse death rolls then CT's than I usually manage. Mind you that was a couple of years ago but as I proved last weekend, losing two units of foot to artillery in under eight rounds of shooting, the old magic is still there :(

My Early Henrician had two big wins out of two last Saturday - both against Milanese (different opponent and army each time) - and what I suppose was a 0-0 draw (we each had one unit fragged after 3 hours!) against one of them again on Tuesday evening. What will happen against quality opposition is another matter....

I've gone for the 1513 in France variant, with maximum mounted and landsknechts, and minimum bill-and-bow. I now have three months to see how this works...... :?
