Fedem Foederate Roman (Eastern) 11/42 vs epos Palmyran 34/34
I won initiative.
The better mobility helped. We were able to leave the enemy legionaries out of the fight.
Tks for the game epos.

ScipioAsinus Arab Conquest (34/46) vs macsen Early Bulgar (49/43)
Initiative won by macsen (If I remember well)
After an initial skirmish between Bulgar horse archers and arab foot, the Arabs attacked in a narrow avenue of open terrain between some hills and plantations and an impassable gully. Meanwhile some bulgar lancers enveloped the arabs left wing, plundering their camp.
The chaotic melee that followed was finally won by the arab spearmen, but it was very close for most of the battle.

Re: Fortune Smiles
Contesting: Catalan Company (Joca Ramiro) - Latin Greeks (epos)
Initiative: Catalan Company
Outcome: Catalan Company (20/40) : Latin Greeks (46/43)
I started off not really understanding who the enemy was - it turns out they were a mix of Bzantines and Normans - probably from Sicily. In any case, I chose a map with a tree sourrounded road on the left, moving slightly left to right. Note, the map was fully open on the right, on the left it was open with a line of trees partway off.
So, the plan was: put the main force in column to work up the road - the expectation is that the enemy would bring heavy units and they would be weak in the forest. Light units on the left and cavalry on the right.
Seeing enemy dispositions, our idea was to clear the left, move up the road with our medium infantry, and await developments on the right - shoot and run, or run and flank as the occasion came up.
As the battle developed we were able to gradually clear out medium bowmen who were holding the forest, and push up the center line while wearing down enemy heavy infantry. The horses engaged and then tried to pull back.
In the end, we were able to kill enough units on the left, while trading in the center.

Just remember to fill in the the numbers on each side of the empty space and it will be right.

Another thing to remember:
Enter the reult to the left of the black cells.
And an advice to some: enter the result here and on the spreadsheet at the same time.
Easy to forget otherwise...

A hard - very hard - Struggle
Contesting: Cassius & Brutus Romans (Joca Ramiro) - Pergamine Greeks (solly)
Initiative: Rome
Outcome: Romans (38/38) - Pergamines (54/48)
Is this a tie or a Roman victory? I think it is properly labeled as a tie - both armies became demoralized in the same turn.
I chose an open field with a screen of trees on the far right. I thought I would push through on the right with my medium units while holding in the center. Cavalry on the left, legions in the center.
This devolved into a bloodbath. He turned out to have mediums as good or better than mine. In the center, the clash went badly at first, but the Romans proved to have a bit more staying power and started routing units as time wnt by. His cavalry was much better, and we were wiped out. We did manage to keep him from flanking the legion and attacking it from the rear until the very end.
finally, with exhaustion setting in, routs on both sides concluded the affair.

Note, I have readied slightly different armies for the different opponents - hence the more specific password.
But, the system gives me no way to tell you which. Try all my 500Roman challenges?
