Performance Issue: Massive slow down/hanging.

Those who still have an issue with updated EXE - could you please check if Steam overlay DLL is loaded into process or not?

You can do this, for example, with the Microsoft's Process Explorer (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sys ... 96653.aspx), as described in this article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/970920. There will be two PanzerCorps.exe processes, parent and child, We are interested in the child process, but in case of doubt, just report both.

Also: try to launch the new EXE from Steam folder manually (without using Steam client) and see what happens. Steam client should still be running in background. Will he slow down occur? Will the GameOverlayRenderer.dll get loaded? Any info on this might help us fix the issue.

Well I've submitted this file to www.virustotal.com and it was checked by a big array of various anti-viruses, including Panda. No issues were detected. Here is a result page:

(Note I renamed the file when unzipping because I had a newer PanzerCorps.exe in the same folder.)

Anyone who wants can repeat this test.

Thanks for testing. I really haven't believed this could be a virus, but you never know...

I tried the new PanzerCorps.exe. Played Villers Bocage without any problems.

I will try to give it a go when i finally can connect to Steam again. My internet is fine but Steam seems to be on strike.

Edit: Steam working again. Game started from Steam client -> GameOverlayRenderer.dll loaded into both PanzerCorps.exe processes. Game executable started directly with Steam running in the background -> GameOverlayRenderer.dll loaded only into the outer PazerCorps.exe process. Both still with the old version of the exe. Will download new one now and post further info in a few minutes.

Edit2: With the PanzerCorps.exe from today in both cases the GameOverlayRenderer.dll only gets loaded into the outer PanzerCorps.exe process. Going to play the game for a bit to check how it behaves.

If this proves successful, will it be put into an official patch?

Yes of course, if the proposed solution solves the problem without introducing any new ones, we will release it as an official patch. This does not mean we will stop working with Steam devs though, because personally I hope for a cleaner solution. You never know when a "workaround" like this backfires, for example Steam can change their DLL again and the method I'm now using to get rid of it may not work any more.

I installed the new .exe and did 9 turns on GC42 with no slowdown. I used to get performance problems every 4 to 5 turns. Will try it out more this weekend.

Just played about 2-3 hours of soviet corp with no slowdown either...longest I've gone.

Keep up the good work...btw, soviet is dam hard compared to the other corps games,

Positive news here as well. Played three GC40 scenarios after each other with the new executable and no slowdowns at all. Seems this fixed the problem.

I can confirm that the final release fixed it on my end (I elected to wait until the final release) Played a soviet corps campaign from Khalkin Gol though to the end of Winter War with no issues.
