installer missed a folder but worked when manually added - default install and location used but multiple copies exist on machine due to beta testing

have 2 more machines to test

Originally would not run but then ran OK when I installed it in the same folder as my CEAW installation. (game bought from Slitherine a month ago and 3.0 patch downloaded from Matrix as soon as the link appeared in this thread)

works fine first create a new folder on the hard drive and call it slitherine 2 then install GS3 to that folder folder then copy all the files from slitherine folder 2 to the original slitherine folder and if it installs a shortcut on the desktop that doesn't work you can either load the game from the original europe at war shortcut or load the short from the slitherine folder

Mac version of the updater worked sweetly for me once they put the actual installer at the other end of the link. It found my serial without asking and the game has continued to run swimmingly since the update.

It seemed to install fine, accepting the serial numbers. However:

1. It said it was creating a shortcut but none ever appeared on desktop.

2. There is a "SlithLaunch" 80KB application in the folder and that seems to start the game (choose the two starting options) but then, (which happened before as I remember), a brief flash of a DOS window and then nothing. What was it that fixed this brief flash? Some file somewhere in saved games or such?

1a. Found the shortcut. Called "SlithLaunch" and just a folder instead of GS or such.

2a. DOS flashes and nothing.

Haven't done the poll yet...hoping it will work. Original game runs. GS does not.

Now I have in My Documents:

CEAW folder with a 'settings' file dated 2013-09-23
CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0
CEAW Grand Strategy 2.10
(can I delete those two folders?)(they each have a 'settings' file...should those be deleted?)
CEAW_INI...never saw this one before...it has something called 'LAUNCHER' configuration settings....should I delete this?

thats most likely the missing jre\lib folder just copy it from your vanilla version

Copied lib folder into the jre folder. Game now loads and seems to run (got to opening moves screen) but no sound.

There seem to be many files missing. No Sounds folder for example.

Should I uninstall, reinstall 2.10, and then install 3.0 over that? Oiiiii....

never run with sound on - so I don't know, but there are some files that you don't need

I couldn't uninstall because the 3.0 didn't appear in the list of uninstallable programs. I just deleted the folder I had made.

Reinstalled 2.10. Ran fine with sound and all.

Where do I install 3.0 to? It doesn't have a default location. I made a new folder GS 3.0 in the Slitherine folder of Programs x86 or whatever it is called. Should it be installed to a specific location?

3.0 doesn't run, at least not when it's installed into it's own folder.

I used default settings for location and let it run - then I copied the jre\lib manually after getting the launch flash bug

now works

Install GS into the same folder that CEAW is in.

The 3.0 installer doesn't show a default location.

I installed 3.0 into the GS Mod file in CEaW file and everything seems to be fine, sound and event pics and all. Now, to find time to try a game!

Is there a reason it is not a full install? Some sort of note about where to install would have been a great help and saved an evening of frustration.

it has bugs

If you run the update version both the serial number and file location should be stored in the registry so you just go with the defaults.

It runs perfectly
