Strategic Command

Is Strategic Command WWII: War in Europe worth buying?
We sleep peaceably in our beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on our behalf.

I bought Strategic Command last night. It's way too soon to say how well I like it. I can say that it seems to incorporate many elements from CEaW, such as generic units, production, research, leaders, no stacking. It is, however, a more elaborate and complicated game. The install file is 1.7 GB--the largest I have ever seen.

I like it. The two games are similar. SC has more detail, but managable.
You can watch some videos out there to see game play.

The AI is better (but, its still AI), the game is at a slightly smaller scale, combat isn't quite so abstract (esp naval), there are more events, there is a small diplomatic component. All in all, similar enough I feel like I'm cheating on commander europe at war... :)

My immediate feeling is that no manpower and no oil makes this game a non-starter for me as a replacement for CEAW. That said, it looks much better than past versions of the game (Strategic Command 1, 2 etc). Past versions I've tried had lots of event pop ups which added to my enjoyment (like "Commander The Great War"). I never liked the squares-instead-of-hexes maps of the Strategic Command games but this version uses hexes so thats already a big improvement. I also never cared for the unit-graphic-on-a-base style but the NATO symbols option looks good. I'll keep reading reviews and also will check out the "Order of Battle: World War II" series too while I wait for a new CEAW clone with remotely good AI.
