List Minimums Rounding fielding Corps from another List

Post by pugsville » Wed Mar 27, 2013 3:23 am

When rounding the number of bases that can be fielded for a troop type, how does the rounding work? Maximums./ Minimums.

If the list says 8 round to 4 I can field one small units 4 bases.
If the List says 6 rounds to 3. you can field?
If the List says 4 rounds to 2. you can field?

I can field that troop type at all? Do you apply the 1/2 of unit rounding? If it rounds to half a unit or more you can field it or is it less than 4 bases you cannot field that troop type at all? Some lists (various Guards cav divisions and the like) would struggle to field a division for another list if all troops types with out a maximum of 8 where unavailable.

Hi Pugsville

We're talking here about a division added to a Corps from another list.

The rules are basically as follows:

1. Divide minimums by 3. In effect, if the troop type has minimums of 6 for infantry/cavalry, or 3 for artillery, you must field at least 1 of these units. If the minimums are less than this, you may ignore the troop type.

2. If you have to field at least 1 unit of a troop type because of (1) above, then the maximum in the list for that troop type remains unchanged. ie. "6 - 16" bases of infantry becomes "4-16" bases (unless of course you are not allowed small units, when it effectively remains 6-16). "3-6" artillery becomes "2-6".

3. If you are not required to field a troop type in accordance with (1) above, then the minimum becomes '0' and the maxiumum is halved. ie "4-16" bases of infantry would become "0-8" bases. "2-6" artillery becomes "0-3".

4. On top of this, some attached divisions must be infantry divisions. In this case ignore all cavalry min/max as you cannnot field them in an infantry division. Vice versa for an attached cavalry division, ignore field artillery or infantry min/max as you cannot field these in a cavalry division.

5. We allow an attached divisional commander to be upgraded to charismatic if any charismatic commanders are permitted in the attached division's list. is drawn from. ie a 1815 Russian Corps can have 1 charismatic commander, plus a second leading an attached division drawn from the 1815 Russian Cavalry Corps.

Make sense?

Cheers
Brett

it's part 3 I want clarified.

You half the maximum, round up it says, is that nearest whole number of bases only? (ie 1.5 -> 2), so if this is less that the minimum units size then you cant field that type?

4-6 becomes min of 4/3 = 1.33 rounds to 1 less than half a unit so becomes
0-3 (halving maximum as the minimum is removed and therefore unavailable)
0-6 halves 0-3 not enough for unit therefore unavailable?
0-4 halves 0-2 not enough for unit therefor unavailable?

to have a troop available you need a minimum of 6 OR a maximum of 8 for cavalry and infantry?

part 3 states your minimum drops to zero so you would look at the maximum number of bases. You would need at least 8 bases max to be able to get a small unit. 8 halved is 4, minimum unit size for non artillery.
