Crash on update 1.3.0

Hi,

after updating beta to 1.3.0, upon starting the game I receive this error.

"3221225501 EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION

Pandora Updater has encountered a problem and needs to close. Please contact support with game logs and save games."

The game then starts, however, the pop-up message above will occasionally be shown over and over.

Re-install did not fix the problem.

Hey,

Thanks for the report.

Those logs curiously don't show the error at all.

Is anyone else having these issues?

Could you please post a dxdiag report?

Monaldinio, also registered here in there forums, does not seem to have those issues. Any idea why I keep getting? I also tried deleting the whole folder under the directory

C:\Users\xy\AppData\Roaming\Proxy Studios\Pandora Beta

but the error persists.

Not sure yet, but I don't think it's your fault -- we've done a lot of backend changes, especially on Windows.

Could you please attach logs right after the first time the message pops up, before you click it?

Ok, here you go.

Please note the following. Whenever I click on start game, the error will pop us as given above. After a few seconds, it disappears. There is no log created until then. (I know that since I deleted all other logs before.) It then pops up again after another second or two, and after another couple of seconds, the update checking progress begins. Only then the logs are created.

Just want to let you know I tried on another PC and it happens there as well. Here's the Dxdiag of the other computer.

Does it happen if you start with Pandora.exe with --no-update?

Does it happen when you quit the game?

I tried --no-update and the message will still pop up once before the game launches. It just doesn't try to update and the error message says "Pandora has encountered a problem". When the game launches and I click "New Game", it still comes up, saying "Pandora SERVER has encountered a problem". It does not show up on closing the game though.

I tried running the game as admin and setting to compatibility mode in Win 7. None of this would fix the message.

Just to get things right - I can still run the game, looks like it works perfectly well. I just get those error messages.

By the way: Thank you very much for trying to sort things out even on a holiday. I highly appreciate your help. :)

Thanks to Piruparka, we've identified the cause of the issue to be Avast! Antivirus 2014.

Unfortunately there is not much we can do about it. Avast Deepscreen initially runs the executable in a sandbox which causes it to crash. After the crash report is closed or a few seconds elapse, Avast decides it's okay and starts it outside the sandbox. This happens for the client, server and updater. Due to the sandbox no logs are written.

One can add Pandora's Binaries directory or executables to the exclusion list (at least under Deepscreen). Additionally in the 2014.9.0.2018 version I tested, avast displays a message it is analyzing the process and after passing the check once it will no longer happen for that executable (it is automatically added to the exclusion list).

Also when you click on sunken ruin you get a CTD. Error message says something like the file doesn't exist.
