New Feature List

Here are some other ideas we are currently looking at for enhancements and additions to BA2. If you have comments or ideas about a specific idea, I would suggest starting a new thread for others to join in on. There are a lot of new ideas that we are looking at, so let us know which are your favourites, or tell us your own!

Dynamic Terrain
An example would be that cratered terrain created by bombardment or damage would then provide better cover for infantry, or bridges become impassible to vehicles if damaged.

Mission Briefing Before Unit Selection
We hear the cries of relief! :) Rework the screen flow to better enable players to make decisions about the forces they want to take into a battle.

Air Strike Logic
Add suppression of air strikes when AA is successful, forcing more careful use. Potentially add another result which is 'suppressed' airstrike which causes less damage and is less accurate.

Multiple Bonus Instances
Ability to have more than once instance of a given bonus (e.g. P-47). Requires new UI to make sure you can know which bonus is going to happen where, and how to cancel the correct bonus if need be.

Ambush Logic
Assault bonus when assaulting vehicles from a building. Improved ambush logic where entirely unexpected ambushes on "out of combat' units causes higher morale hit.

Engineer Demolition
Ability for engineers or other units to damage or destroy certain buildings or other terrain features.

Artillery Spotting
Improved damage or accuracy for artillery and other similar attacks when directed by friendly troops, and even more when directed by specialised spotters.

Terrain Effects
More granular terrain abilities which better allow us to accurately model the effects of terrain on different vehicles. for example, T34’s are exceptional on mud and snow while PZIII’s and IV’s struggle. Panthers and Tigers are good at muddy terrain, but their wheels collected packed snow and frequently immobilised them during winter battles. Churchill tanks are slow and ponderous, but are almost unaffected by any terrain.

Tank Riders
Certain infantry units can mount onto some tanks. Needs both UI and logic to make sure it is clear what is happening.

Support Weapon Tweaks
Allow limited movement of support weapons, but no move and fire. Limit some weapons from use in certain terrain (e.g. mortars being fired from inside roofed buildings).

Hill and Hedge Logic
The hill and hedge logic tends to be both hard to understand and somewhat unrealistic. We want to redo it entirely to make it simpler to understand to advantages of higher ground, and to gain the advantages of firing from behind hedges and other fixed terrain features.

Great stuff, can't wait for BA2 to arrive, but I'll go ahead and ask a question already. The features that will make it in BA2 will be available in the original BA as well via an update, right?

We don't have the bandwidth to maintain two versions of BA at the same time. There are also things which we are limited by on BA in order to maintain backward compatibility. There is always a point where you need to draw a line to enable you to rework features and give us the elbow room to change and improve things.

Bringing out a newer version of the game makes sense in order to make improvements and so on. Does that mean the next 3 expansions are for the original battle academy are the last for that version?

As we're not sure when BA 2 will be ready for release, it's likely that we could end up with more expansions past the 3 currently planned. It's obviously in our interest to keep the awesome BA community playing during the BA 2 development process. :)

If possible building with two floors for urbain battle like Stalingrad :idea:

And DON'T FORGET THE EDITOR...!!

If you're re-building a BA2, please add the following to the Editor...

1. Ability to cut and paste sections of maps, within maps and between maps
2. Enable design or import of buildings somehow (actually, am looking forward to seeing BA2's new buildings almost as much as the new units, lol! I've realised it's darned hard to create large buildings, eg. Cathedrals and Basilicas, by adding lots of little churches together... would be cool if we could import our own building blocks)
3. Enable design or import of units (upgrade Editor to enable import of small 3D unit objects using standard 3D files rather than the current ones) so we could easily create our own new units
4. And since you're doing it as a new BA2... please make it possible for us to export units as standard 3D files, so that we can easily modify in CAD apps and import back... :-)
5. And, most importantly, an Undo button that remembers my last ten "mistakes"...

Will we be able to use the current (Africa/Europe) unit sets with the brand new BA2 engine?

2-floor buildings, eg. church towers, should increase firing range for snipers and LOS too...

-Gun damaged
-Mg damaged
-Vehicle inmobilized

.ATGs, AAGs and IGs move 1 tile per turn

.Pivot movements cost APs for vehicles. It gives turret tanks a real advantage vs non turret vehicles.

.Infantry receiving fire by side or rear caught extra morale drop.

.Once spent 2 shots of reaction fire phase, give defending unit some chance to fire again (although very little, 5%, 10%, 15%... just to prevent the enemy from moving blithely with 100% possibility that anybody can't shot it).

These are really good ideas!

One thing is for sure, please correct BA1's response fire icons... So that the bullets shown accurately represent the number of response shots that an enemy unit has remaining... With the current "shots leftover plus one" response fire it is difficult to know whether that enemy still has the +1? Or not?

Really excited by the mods described so only a couple of questions:

Smoke - will that be standard in BA2? (I may have missed a whole conversation stream on this topic)

Tank killers first shot fired from ambush seems a tad ineffective is that something others would like to see tweaked?
