Is it possible to try and keep my Steel Legion Infantry force intact for the entire campaign?
I'm kinda partial to the Mechanized infantry model and don't want to have to turn them in for Space Marines or super heavy tanks.
Is this possible?
If so what are some suggestions for an Infantry-centric force?
Thanks.

I finished the main campaign on Hard and I can tell you that infantry is practically useless.
Even the most elite infantry takes tons of losses when engaging large ork mobs, they lose models (and experience) and bleed your requisition out.
By the end I just used weapon teams to capture points and kept some very elite SM units to finish off very weakened squads.
Probably, they are viable on lower difficulty settings, if you play Hard or Very Hard do not even bother.
Even buying cheap units as meat-shield will earn you just one turn, because they will be wiped out as soon as enemy glances at them.
Re: Infantry viable?
That is sad to hear.
Its a Steel Legion game where you cant play the Steel Legion.
Blah.

Re: Infantry viable?
Well, tanks and artillery are great and they are Steel Legion.
Re: Infantry viable?
The Orc Hunters expansion answers your needs. Just don't take any flamethrower infantry ... they always get butchered due to low initiative.

So...do the Orc hunters get buffed, or do the orcs get nerfed?
Re: Infantry viable?
Neither, actually. Both Steel Legion and Orcs get new unit types.

Re: Infantry viable?
In a way both. Orc Hunter Units are larger (more firepower) while the orc Units have mostly no or only poor ranged firepower. This makes Support Units viable and requiredcj95 wrote:

Re: Infantry viable?
I found myself using abhumans more than standard infantry as I progressed, it was hard keeping stock steel legion infantry alive early game so I just stopped trying and bulked up on tanks. As a fan of the lore I'd keep in mind that the imperial guard are numbered in the billions so infantry have a low life expectancy and are used as cannon fodder. There are however elite units like the Tempestus Scions who are equally skilled as Adeptus Astartes Marines and they're awesomely badass!
