Hm i was due to write down a longer post about the Start of GC42/43 West Campaign, but I postpone it a bit as I think I should interfere here a bit.
First I have to tell you I'm in contact with the organsitor of the MP Tournament and he regularly uses me as a beta testing victim for the coming scenarios in this tournament. Victim cause he spanks me really hard on almost any Scenario and no matter what side he plays. (Ok now everyone knows I'm a terrible MP General
but that's not the point)
goose put up a Classic "Pay it Forward" Effort in organizing this tournament. Hoping he could create some more interest in MP, hoping to establish a bunch of MP Generals that can not only determine a Champ but to make it a regular recurring event.
So he does it as a First Time Manager of Operations and even got the blessing of the Producers of the Game to do it.
Are there flaws, unbalanced scenarios, not perfect setups, overthinking on some things, underestimating other aspects involved ? You bet it probably all happened down the Road.
But goose is not carelessly putting up things here just to run a quick thing. My guess he probably spent way too much energy in setting up Player Pairings in Round 1 and 2 depending on things where do they the Combatants live, are they in similar time zones to make this smoothly running contest, how experienced are the Contestants and what not ?
But maybe this was time and energy spent well as from what I see the Battles all finished in a certain Time Window, no one dropping out or not showing up at all. I don't know, I'm not a contestant here you decide
Maybe he was a bit careless in using that (probably) not perfectly balanced Russian German Scenario, but as he said he won it from both sides all the Time (not against me as I'm no reference in MP Skills but vs all kind of players before) Maybe it should have been a paired game or maybe any Scenario should be a Paired Game to make it as fair as possible, but here we go back to the Point of making it a smooth running contest. More Games = More Time needed = bigger disparity in Time for finishing a Round.
What is my point
We all should look at the bigger Picture
A member of the Community sets up a Tournament for all Interested (just want to mention sacrificing his good chance to win it himself)
The Tournament as far as I can see is running pretty well in terms of effort, passion and competitiveness
The Producers while not involved at all gave their blessings and some mild support even though Panzer Corps is an ending and finished Product while probably most resources go into the Development of Panzer Corps 2
Everyone is having fun to a certain degree, even the guys losing accept the Challenge and Loss with great Sportsmanship
Round 3 Scenario seems to be very fairly balanced (and I can tell you as a proud beta testing victim, there were more in consideration and testing them was not only a good idea, but probably spared you more controversity)
So just let the nitpicking go and appreciate what you got. I'm not fishing for compliments for goose and what he did, but all of you should be happy someone reached out and made some effort for your benefit.
And if we all handle it smart the Organisator of the Tourney will not only learn (which obviously already happened) and with more experience make the overall Thing better, but there is a good chance Chance this will become a regular event maybe even carrying over to the new Panzer Corps 2.
So i appeal to all involved here, see the Chances and embrace them, even help out with suggestions to make it all better and Please, this should be FUN in the First Place, not a dead serious Challenge where all results are carved in Stone once and forever. Be a good sport and accept the injustice of bad lot, a bad side, a bad turn of weather as you have to accept a bad roll of the Dice on each and every attack
Thank you
