Important Update for Mac Users
We are ending support for the Mac version of Order of Battle at the end of 2020.
How it’s going to work:
- We will be releasing an update to the game before the end of 2020. This will be the final patch update for the Mac version of Order of Battle.
- You will retain access to any DLC you already own, and you will continue to be able to purchase any of the currently available DLC should you wish.
- Future DLC campaigns will not be released for the Mac version of the game.
- You will continue to have access to the PBEM servers, but will not be able to play against anyone who uses a Future version of the game. We will make a legacy PC version available so that players can continue to play against their friends on PC if they wish.
Unfortunately, the effort required to keep the game up-to-date for the very small community of Mac users is just not sustainable anymore for the team.
Please reply to this thread for any questions you may have.

Re: Important Update for Mac Users
I know that it's not an ideal solution, but we are going to ensure that Mac users will still be able to play against each other in PBEM and are going to make a legacy version of the game available for PC users so that they can continue to play PBEM against their Mac owning friends.

Should have seen the writing on the wall with the release of PC2 for PC only

Very sad, though I would rather see OOB continue for Windows only than disappear altogether.
Re: Important Update for Mac Users
This is extremely disappointing news indeed. Though given the fact that every new DLC release contains an update to the overall game, it seems that there may be a flaw in the process, which in turn has led to this conclusion. While I can understand the developer being in a tough spot, this seems to be an ongoing theme with the developers associated with Slitherine and thus this will impact my future purchase decisions as it seems that any Mac release from Slitherine will lose support in the future. Essentially, buying a Mac version through Slitherine is a risky proposition and may not be worth it.

I sincerely hope that you guys reconsider this decision. I've been playing OoB for years now ever under Mac version and it works perfectly. I bought every DLC release and certainly would continue if available for Mac. Otherwise I'll move on to other compatible and customer-friendly developers.

Buy a cheap Windows laptop and continue playing OOB there ... at least that's one possibility.Mascarenhas wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 11:26 amI sincerely hope that you guys reconsider this decision. Maybe this post may be interesting:
I would also not like to see our Mac confederates vanish...

However, thanks to the suggestions above, we are going to investigate getting the game to be available on GeForce Now. I can't commit to anything at the moment, but it's an interesting angle.
Thanks

Re: Important Update for Mac Users
Sad news indeed. Seems like Slitherine is abandoning the Mac platform altogether with it's games. First Panzer Corps 2 was announced and that no Mac or IOS versions would be available, now OOB is dropping Mac support. i just did a quick search on the site for all games for the Mac platform and while a large number show up (Mostly DLCs) when you click on one of the base games it only shows the Windows version. Another telltale sign of lack of interest in the Mac platform is seen in the recent announcement of the collaboration with Battlefront on the Combat Mission Shock Force 2 game. Slitherine is only carrying the Windows version even though Battlefront has and supports a Mac version of all the Combat Mission games. The Slitherine CMSF2 pages don't even acknowledge that a Mac version is available directly from Battlefront.
As a long time Mac user, this is very disappointing. It's been a good run with Slitherine, but it appears that this run has come to it's unfortunate end.
Cheers,
Jeff

Are Macs made for video games?
I know people who use their Mac professionally and play games with their PC.
And Linux ?

Re: Important Update for Mac Users
By this time, now, I have more than 8500h of game playing using Mac, with no problem whatsoever. I see no reason for acquiring a PC just to play OoB, I'd rather pay a bit more for Mac version and funnel my sparse resources to the right guys in doing so. A Mac's definitive advantage is video quality, which is much appreciated by me.
Re: Important Update for Mac Users
While Macs may not be optimized for video games, I've been playing games on my various Macs since the late 1980's (started with a Mac SE). In all that time I've never really had any issues playing the games I like to play. I don't feel like I'm missing anything by not getting the absolute fastest FPS in a game or if the graphics aren't as good as a tricked out PC. Especially in the wargaming niche, those things are pretty much secondary to the gameplay of games like OOB, Panzer Corps or Combat Mission.terminator wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 5:01 amAre Macs made for video games?

It's especially disappointing to see another good game lose Mac support since it seems like Macs are making a bit of a resurgence these days. I hope Slitherine will rethink their position on Macs, as I have really enjoyed OOB and Panzer Corps 1 (on iOS). Looks like I'll get the last OOB DLC I'm missing (Red Storm) and enjoy it while I can.
Cheers,
Jeff

Very disappointing news indeed. More than a 30 year gamer here and sorry to see this franchise go. They left us, we didn't leave them. Remember that.
