I watched let's play of when Morning Sun came out, and picked it up now and noticed this, the colour of Japanese occupation changed from red to light blue? WHY!!!!!!? It's so similar to the Chinese, you can barely tell them apart. Please go back to the red that was used previously. ( also remember the pins that came up on map when you fulfiled specific objective? That was cool, not sure why it got removed. It was super minor, but nice touch. )
My second gripe, as I also watched past let's play. The game after certain missions had a choice between 1 of 2 specializations. Now that seemed much more excruciating choice than the present system.
And secondly the Japanese tree has like only 6 choices? Surely you'd be able to fill them all by the end of campaign with no problem, it seems rather pointless. I think the way it was done in the past where you had to choose 1 from 2 was far more interesting decision. This system seems a little half done and pretty bland I have to say.
Also having watched the lets play I noticed in first mission of the DLC there were Japanese Marines and Enginneers that you could buy, but in current version they are not available? Why? It forces you to spam Japanese Infantry on mass.

Thanks for your post, can you attach your latest savegame? That would be helpful for us to look into those issues.
(You might have to zip it)

Tbf I wouldn't call them issues, unless it's only my game. The colour and the pins are graphical choices, which I think previously were way better. Definitely the colour though, that light blue for Japanese is just horrendous. Red was perfect.
The specialization system is a gameplay choice, I think past system was way better, especially when through all of the campaign as in Morning Sun you only get 7 specializations, and 3 of them just add experience, it's very bland, previous system was more agonizing and interesting. You should spice it up somehow or just revert back to the old system. As for units, that could be actual only issue/bug maybe, not sure.
Here's the save though:

Thx for the save.
Re: Morning Sun DLC minor gripe and overall game specializat
So I'm wondering is lack of Japenese Engineers and Marines in first scenario was done on purpose?

I don't know if it was done on purpose but I do know why this is true. The first allowable date for Japanese Engineers is 6/11/1937 and for Japanese Marines is 25/8/1937 (according to units.csv in European-style dates). The first scenario in Morning Sun is dated July 1937.Mujado wrote:So I'm wondering is lack of Japenese Engineers and Marines in first scenario was done on purpose?

Btw what are you thoughts on specialization tree? I haven't played much but it seems having 7 choices throughout all campaign seems scant( especially as 3 are quite boring 1exp) To me it seems the previous system of 1 choice between 2 was more of a interesting decision.

Unlikely, and I will tell you why. In the scenarios, Nationalist China is color blue and Japan is red. So in the campaign, Japan is invading China's territory and that is why it is colored blue:Mujado wrote:As ever helpful, thank you Now just hoping they change the colour back to red haha.
In the scenario editor, you see that there is no color on the map itself:
That's because it's set in this screen and the developers choose to follow the color scheme in the scenarios for the campaign file. However, watch here as I change the color from blue to red for Nationalist China:
Now, is this what you want it to look like?
If so, then you will probably have to learn how to use the scenario editor because I believe that they would want it to stay the way that it is.

Re: Morning Sun DLC minor gripe and overall game specializat
I should probably temper this statement a bit, upon further reflection and realizing that you meant Manchuria should be red to start with, then more of the map to turn from blue to red as the Japanese conquer. When I went back to the campaign editor, I realized that I did not know how they color Manchuria in the first place and, to be honest, I cannot see how they do it.bru888 wrote:If so, then you will probably have to learn how to use the scenario editor because I believe that they would want it to stay the way that it is.
So, my further responses are these:
1) The campaign editor is new and, having been superimposed on old DLC like Morning Sun, may require tweaking of those DLCs.
2) Being new, it's still being developed. The color of Manchuria may have been set in the old campaign text files without any provision for changing them in the new campaign editor yet and it was just imported and saved as such.
3) So, it's a work in progress.
Regarding the specialisations, that is also a campaign editor function. Or it will be, when the campaign editor is improved. I don't see any provision in it for editing specialisations, either.
As to whether this system compares to the old binary, either/or way of choosing specialisations, I'll take this one. It's more variable and interesting. The fact that Morning Sun contains only seven (not six) is yet another design decision. There could have been more; they choose to include only these:
