No 'Unrestricted Submarine Warfare' Specialization .png

I'm currently playing Kriegsmarine, latest 7.1.6. patch. The 'Unrestricted Submarine Warfare' specialization .png is missing from ingame.
There is no .png for it in Content/Graphics/UI/Specializations, where I believe it should reside.
Its 64 x 64 btw.
Can anybody share if they have.

Gabe-This is what I got. And Yes, I do think it works.
Halvralf-'Kriegsmarine' is one of the official DLC's available from Matrix and Slitherine,
I think it costs about $15 US.

It is this and I don't think it works. Just like Halvralf, didn't find it in Kriegsmarine.

spec_unrestricted_submarines_title = Unrestricted Submarine Warfare
spec_unrestricted_submarines_descr = According to naval rules of engagement, submarines must allow merchantmen to abandon ship before attacking it. Without such restrictions, the combat effectiveness of the submarine and its chances of survival signficantly increases.
spec_unrestricted_submarines_effect = • Submarines gain +3 attack against transport and supply ships


If there'll ever be a Soviet campaign, I'm pretty sure I will buy this: :mrgreen: :oops:

Dammit I can't get my attachment to post.
It was a pic of the specialisation tab, but Cool explained it all anyway.
Its hard to say if it works or not, I kinda think it does.
My 2 star U-boats will knock off 4-5 strength points from supply ships every time, but i have no way of knowing if that is normal or not.
BTW I just checked Matrix and the DLC is $9.99.

Stan I do have the DLC Kriegsmarine and I apologize that I expressed myself a bit unclear. What I meant is that I can't find the possibility to buy that Specialisation in the Kriegsmarine DLC.

Ah, I understand now. Yes indeed, I did add this specialisation via the editor.
Subs are so crappy I wanted the extra help.
Seriously, it should be there in the vanilla anyway seeing that historically it was a big part of German sub warfare.
Now with this info and Gabes comments I'm starting to suspect this feature was never meant to be implemented.
BTW, I tried attaching a pic but couldn't get it to post correctly, any advice?

There are apparently some "vestigial" specialisations in the game which, although at one time on the drawing board, were never fully implemented for whatever reason.

This is the campaign editor screen from Kriegsmarine. Note that Unrestricted Submarine Warfare is available but is not selected. I've seen that with other specialisations in the editor, ones that are included in specialisations.csv but you never see in the game:

To see what happens, I turned this specialisation on and saved the campaign. It does appear:

but this nifty, correctly formatted, sized, and named icon that I placed in the Graphics/UI/Specialisations folder does not:

That's a clue as to this specialisation never having been fully implemented, and I doubt that it would do what the description says even if I used it in my edited version of Kriegsmarine.

I've tested it and I could not see a damage difference, neither in torpedo attack nor the deck gun.

But Stan, you should try my mod, many changes are for naval units, like increased torpedo stats of subs and some reduced cooldowns; I think you may like it. I'm a fan of the OoB naval warfare myself.
At the same time, Mr. terminator is developing a "Unit Editor Tool" for you to be able to change some stats of the units easily yourself. You should check it out, too. :D

Yes, it's exactly as Bruce said (and Halvralf showed in the screens): There are many of those remnant specs left, some work, like the "British_Pacific_Fleet", some don't.
The problem is, that those "vestigal" specs should not be available through the editor. Better watch out when adding "unofficial" specs to scenarios and campaigns. Erik had some experiences with those, too... :wink:

Ah! I went for the "effects" name instead of the "name" name in specialisations.csv. Very good! I'm glad to see the icon might get some use, should you ever get the specialisation itself to work. That, though, I think is beyond all of us; it seems to be hard-coded. Or did you get it to work in your mod? Please let us know and how you did it, if so.

Here is the correctly named icon, if anybody else wants to use it. I'm holding on to it for future reference.

A little upset with Slitherine for not implementing this feature though, seems pretty obvious it should be IMO.
No Big Deal I guess, I've come to expect things like that from OoB.
Oh, I almost forgot, Gabe I do use and was using your mod when I first posted.
That's why I thought the specialisation might be working in the first place!
FYI, I don't play without it. :)

I assume you are referring to the "z" in "Specialization"? It's not a typo; in America (from which I hail as well), that's the way it is spelled. However, as a courtesy to the Europeans on the board, I began spelling it as "specialisation" (that's how the Brits spell it) and I do it out of habit now.

Here's the trouble, though. My browser doesn't like that spelling, so I get the misspelling squiggles when I type it:

No sorry. Those things are "hard-coded", I don't know if that is the right technical term, though. At least not moddable in the ways I know of.

What exactly are you working on in that case, where is it, and what tool(s) are you using? If you don't mind elaborating a bit, that is. (In my eagerness, I momentarily forgot my manners. :| )

It's basically the "layout" how to put the spec into the code using if-functions, but that "layout" would have to be rewritten in the language used for the game and implemented in the engine there.

You can get a sample of the game's code here, and with a bit of background knowledge in programming, it's (mostly) understandable as it is, actually. You still need to guess (or find out) what each procedure does exactly, of course.

This 'Unrestricted Submarine Warfare' -specialization seems to be very similar to 'Wire Guided Bomb' so it should be very easy to add "codewise". Disclaimer: this is said by a person with zero coding capabilies. :D
