I still don't like the way PzC 2 looks.

Order of Battle is a series of operational WW2 games starting with the Pacific War and then on to Europe!

Well this discussion is a good prelude to OoB 2 which probably will come in 3D. If the team will learn from the last 3d War-gaming games released in teh last let's say 2 years , Oo2 can become absolute king.

I don't know of many 3D operational-level strategy games released in the last two years though. Strategic Mind and Panzer Strategy come to mind, but apart from that, I don't see any "big" games OoB developers could learn from.

Plus, if OoB2 were ever to be a thing, it would probably take more than two years to make, I would think... PzC2 was like 3 or 4 years.

The interface and surface of PZC2 looks new and sleek but it doesn't give the same feelings and appears cold and soulless at least to me.

The original Panzer Corps has a tutorial maybe PC2 should have a tutorial and release it as a demo ....

I feel that the demos are no longer fashionable. Currently one can view videos of the game as tests. There was a time once when almost every game had its demo...

The last thing we need is a OOB clone we do not need Panzer Corps 2 to mirror OOB even if the supply system thing is non existent or whatever. Its great to have a different game that still covers the same area and battles so to speak. I hope Panzer Corps 2 keeps its overall foundation that one encountered in Panzer General the DOS game it was the coolest thing to experience. Having said that my own opinion is it may have too much of an arcade look now:

Now there are Black Circles on the map then all of these triangle things below each unit that stand out then the selected unit has a white hash around it what ever happened to a simple unit glow on or off then some other unit is shown with a zombie green ring around it then the tanks themselves looks simply like grey blocks but this will probably improve. It is not as bad as heroes of normandy which is basically a bunch of playing cards in a square thing point is for me - its to arcade looking consider OOB its more warfare looking whatever that means. You can still know what units you have clicked on or have not clicked on without sirens going off ... (it is just a preference thing on my part)

Well put.

I didn't intend this to be a "hate PzC 2" thread but in the back of my mind is a concern about what I have been hearing for years now; that when PzC 2 debuts, there will be a mass exodus from OOB. I want to believe that will not be the case and I figured that I would boost one aspect of OOB that beats PzC 2 hands down: map graphics.

When I first came here, I made some comments about how remarkable it is that the mind takes over, glosses over, the size discrepancies in this game. Sure, men are taller than buildings and trees but somehow it seems to work and almost look natural:

At least, you stop thinking about it and don't even notice it after a while. Also, there are minimal extraneous graphics to distract one from gameplay; this is the most ever shown, I believe:

Now, contrast that with this; (disregard the white triangle which is the video control in the PzC 2 walkthrough that I mentioned above; also, the display is dimmed when the video is paused so the game is not as dark as in these images):

Some line has been crossed. The trees look like pebbles under the feet of colossal soldiers. Towns are mostly flat circles with a building or two as a marker. Outlying structures and other decorations seem to be non-existent. Rough terrain is accomplished by shadows.

And the eye candy; the revolving unit selection circles, the dramatic combat corona, and above all, those polka dots for movement possibilities; ugh:

If OOB did not exist, I would be a PzC fan because I would know no better. Fortunately or unfortunately, OOB does exist and has spoiled me graphically.

The problem is (in my opinion) this: The map seems too... zoomed out, if that makes sense. While soldiers are certainly not to scale with buildings in OoB, PzC2 takes it to another level. You’ll look at an OoB forest hex, and it has 15-20 trees, and then you look at a PzC2 forest hex, and its just dozens of trees. Thats kind of sad, too. I actually mostly like the way the terrain looks. If it was a more zoomed in map, more of a “tactical command” map. Its hard to explain what I mean, hopefully this some semblance of logic and reason.
Klinger, you're dumber than you look, and THAT boggles the MIND.

In PanzerCorps 2, one can easily change the camouflages of each unit which is not the case of OoB WWII :

I am in the PzC2 beta test - and i would say ... its dont i like the GFX "not at all" ..... but i musst agree .. the scaling from environment<>units look to "fake" ...
But the one thing that shine for me, as an real advantage from PzC2 over OOB is the random map generation - and the AI that can handle this ....
OOB is nice - but the most disadvantage i and my friends have get , is the restricted scenario+AI system ...
You can only play scenario X with Y number of players - and the AI cant use this side as it is only available for this and so on ... for singleplayer not an dramatic problem ... but if you would like to play with 2 players (or even worse with 3 or more ..) then you hit massive restrictions ....

Hey Boss can ya expound more on the Random Map Generator .. Under FEATURES on the website it reads "Advanced random map generator for Skirmish mode, offering six distinct map types and four mission types" Can one have an AI player that they play with in Skirmish Mode. (Some of my best friends are AI players) Is skirmish always 1 vs 1 can ya do two vs 1. Thanks

In Multiplay this is available but of course is human ... "A wide range of Multiplayer options: hot seat, server-assisted play-by-email (Slitherine’s PBEM++) mode, and a true online Multiplayer. In the latter mode it is even possible to play your turns simultaneously with your coop partner, which basically reduces waiting times to zero!"

Maybe if the Germans actually had equipment during WW2 that was this scale vs the surrounding terrain maybe they would have won ???

The advantage is that one easily distinguishes all the units even the smallest.
