is it forseen that units have to do formation change (iNFANTRY: Columne, line- Arty : LIMBERED UNLIMBERED AND SO) ?
Artillery limbering/unlimbering yes.

Units capable of other significant formation changes have that factored into their normal behaviour. e.g. Pike Keils and early Tercios are immune to the ill effects of flank attacks as they are assumed to be able to turn men easily to face them.

To keep things simple this is not visually represented.

However, here is a screen shot of some early tercios.

And some kittens.....

I love the look, my only critique of the above tercio is the men in the mangas look quite a bit "taller" than the men in the main body.

BTW, are the flag integral to the graphic or something that is superimposed? Would be a pretty cool feature to make custom flags :)

Oh man, sweet memories ... That game is a real classic one, great ideas and detail combined with lots of content provided much fun, you could replay the scenarios and campaigns over and over again. Countless newer games didn't achieve that by far. :|
100% agree, of course AOR full title was "Wargame Construction Kit 3".... Don't see too many of those anymore...

Well, apart the basket players in mangas i think they need made the block of pikes less dense to show better flags... now flags looks like you use a hammer to snail them in a wooden solid block.

Lets see the final graphics and how they integrated in the map... maybe when we see a full battle line is less problematic and we only center in smash the show box that block our boxes

To be fair after... 18 years i dont see a single wargame at the level of AOR... for me the most complete wargame i see, with Steel Panthers serie a good exponent of a lost era.

Only because you are looking at a still screenshot. They are in fact animated to wave in the breeze.

I think that is an optical illusion caused by the height of the pikes.

The flags in the unit are integral to the unit texture. Each unit type of each nation has its own texture - so you could customise the flags by editing the texture.

The flags floating above the unit are the status icons and are specified for each nation for the whole army. They become progressively tattered as the unit suffers losses, and also show morale (cohesion) status. (The lower tercio is Disrupted as a result of enemy artillery fire, but has not suffered enough losses for the flag to become tattered).

Haha, your right, lining up the pixels from the heads of the shot sleeve dudes to the pike dudes heads show they're the same height! Perhaps as the shots headgear is so distinctively darker adds to the illusion of greater height...

Will animations be able to be toggled "off" ? I only ask because Matrix games old title Horse an musket had waiving flags ( and undulating water hex) animations. Looked nice at ist but very quickly became a source of "eye fatigue" !

Cheers!

And not too much disrupted, as it should be. Spanish commanders at the time had very low regard for field artillery, considered as "espantacanalla" (good only to scare scum)

The lack of head in pike block made the mangas basket players and pikemen kids with a stick

Ummm maybe the flags with movement could be used to show not moved units... a way to reduce eye fatigue.

PD: i dont remember this very well... the release plan was in 2014 or early 2015??? i dont know if mix it with other game release date, thanks.

Just tried posting in the new Pike & Shot forum only to be told that this is not permitted. Can this be resolved at some point please?

Thanks
Ian

I was going to post this in our new forum but as its not fully functional yet thought I would do so here.

Will it be possible to design scenarios using armies (and their texture sets) from different modules? I am doing the research work for a scenario on the 1658 Battle of the Dunes where i have enough information available to provide unit name details for all of the regimental size units present from the 5 armies that were there. Ideally I would like to use.

For the French led side
A Bourbon French nation / texture set (hope this has a white banner with a gold Fleur-de-lis
) from the 30 Years War module. For the French army
A English Parliamentary nation / texture set from the English Civil War module. For the New Model Army contingent.

For the Spanish led side
A Spanish nation / texture set from the 30 Years War module. For the Spanish Walloon & German contingents in the Spanish army.
A English Royalist nation / texture set from the English Civil War module. For the Royalist army in exile forces present under the command of the Duke Of York (the future James II)
A French Valois nation / texture set from the Italian Wars module hope this has a dark blue banner with a gold Fleur-de-lis) for the French Fronder forces under the command of Louis Prince of Conde.

If we are going to be able to mix nation / texture sets from different modules it would also be helpful to know at some point what nation / texture sets will release with each module?

Many thanks
Ian

Ian,

You will indeed be able to use textures from different modules. You can access all alternate textures for each unit model in the Scenario Editor.

Each unit type has its own texture in each national texture set in which that unit is used, but not all texture sets have all unit types. However, it should not be very difficult to add any missing unit textures for your scenarios in PhotoShop by a bit of fairly simple copying and pasting, as all the unit textures use the same basic template. Probably all you would need to cut and paste would be the flags.

Hi Richard
Thanks for the prompt reply. Have I understood you correctly here that this means that it you set things to support this that individual units could have their own distinctive flags as well as regimental titles?

Many thanks
Ian

If the individual units are defined as separate unit types in the unit definition spreadsheet, yes.

Hi Richard
Many thanks, that's really great news. I have access to a lot of 30 Years War regimental flag images so taken together with the 3 Guthrie books lots of opportunity to produce visually enhanced scenarios from that period.
By the way the 3rd Guthrie 30 Years War book has quite a lot of information on the fighting in Italy so is there any chance that you could include a Savoy national texture set in the 30 Years War module?

The news on this game just gets better & better.

All the best

Ian

Probably not, the graphics guys are already working flat out, but it would be easy to add as a mod.
