Post by flatsix518 »

All,

Tomorrow morning (Wednesday Texas Time) I'll close results collection. So any games finishing before I do that will count.

I'm going to catch up scoring later today and see where everyone stands and post that.

Best regards,

Results posted to here.

92% of Phase 1 games completed.

You can still report results for about another 20 hours.

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II - Guaranteed Berths!

All,

First, this would be a really good time for everyone to review the results posted at: viewtopic.php?f=299&t=55406&p=516241#p516241

I'll make corrections, if necessary up and to the point I close scoring, tomorrow morning. After that, tant pis as the French say.

The scoring methodology for this wrap up is: #_of_wins + win%*10. So someone who has one six out of ten games (6-4) would score 12 points. (Six wins plus .6*10).

Below are current names -- wins -- losses -- scores -- Current Pod Assignment
batesmotel -- 8 -- 2 - 16.00 -- A
flatsix518 -- 6 -- 4 -- 12.00 -- B
guillaume -- 7 -- 3 -- 14.00 -- B
Hutze -- 3 -- 7 -- 6.00 -- B
kmaher -- 2 -- 8 -- 4.00 -- C
pantherboy -- 10 -- 2 -- 18.33 -- A
susji -- 0 -- 10 -- 0.00 -- C
Triarius -- 0 -- 0 -- C
Aryaman -- 10 -- 4 -- 17.14 -- A
cavehobbit -- 10 -- 4 -- 17.14 -- A
deadtorius -- 2 -- 10 -- 3.67 -- C
egos 2 -- 8 -- 4.00 -- C
Hrothgar -- 1 -- 10 -- 1.91 -- C
moncholee -- 9 -- 4 -- 15.92 -- A
rumguff -- 9 -- 5 -- 15.43 -- B
Vadim84 -- 8 -- 6 -- 13.71 -- B
rbodleyscott -- 12 -- 2 -- 20.57 -- A
Dortmund -- 10 -- 3 -- 17.69 -- A
Tiopepe -- 11 -- 3 -- 18.86 -- A
Thegraymouser -- 7 -- 7 -- 12.00 -- B
ggarynorman -- 2 -- 11 -- 3.54 -- C
iandavidsmith -- 4 -- 10 -- 6.86 -- B
shawkhan2 -- 7 -- 7 -- 12.00 -- B
Ulysisgrunt -- 1 -- 11 -- 1.83 -- C

There could be some significant movement between Pod B and C assignments, depending upon how a few of the games wrap up. The Pod A field is probably set, unless guillaume comes back to life and wins his final two games between now and tomorrow morning.

Best regards,

John

No strong feeling about this, really just an observation but shouldnt it be wins + %wins of PLANNED games*10, not completed?
hypothetically, you could play only 5 games, win them all and then not play any more and get 15 points...

TGM,

You have correctly pointed out the deficiency of this scoring method, I why I want to come up with something different for next Caracole.

For this phase of the tournament I only wanted to count game wins. The problem is that too many players are dropping out of the tournament or failing to play all their games in a reasonable time. The problem was sufficiently severe that trying to use reserve players to remedy was not going to be practical.

As a result many good players were going to be penalized because of their opponent's poor tournament etiquette.

I took a look at this scoring formula. Since most players still active in the tournament had made good faith efforts to play all their games, scoring in this manner is fair -- for this moment. Clearly, this scoring formula could be exploited by unscrupulous payers in the manner you describe.

So I am trying to figure out something for next Caracole that deals with the reality of player drop out, but is not an easily exploited scoring method.

Your proposal wouldn't work -- as players could still be penalized by derelict opponents through no fault of their own.

Re: Pike & Shot Caracole II - Phase 2 has begun!

Post by flatsix518 »

All,

I've started a new thread for Caracole Phase 2 activity. It is located at: viewtopic.php?f=299&t=63510

Expect that thread to be moved into the "sticky" area and this thread retired out of the sticky area at some point.

Play can begin immediately.

Good luck and good games,

John

Sorry, i can´t connect some time,I've noticed that are not recorded my two victories

Opponents challenge:

batesmotel: loss
flatsix518: loss
guillaume: loss
Hutze:loss
kmaher: win
pantherboy: loss

My challenges:

batesmotel: loss
flatsix518: loss
guillaume: loss
Hutze: loss
kmaher: win
pantherbwioy:loss

This does not change anything and go straight to the last block, but my two victories blood, sweat, and tears have cost me!
