Battle of Wimpfen

Post by divi8 » Tue Feb 10, 2015 1:34 pm

So I tried already four times (colonel level) to beat this scenario, but I get beaten by the AI every time.
Does anyone kwows a good strategy for this scenario?

Thanks,

Sometimes it takes me two tries to win this one myself.
It can be difficult if the explosion happens at the wrong time and place.

Buy as many detached muskets and later tercios as you can.

Put most of them in the woods on the left.

You can place one detached musket in the built-up area on the right.

I place my cavalry and later tercios in a second line at least 2 spaces behind the center.

On the left and right flank I usually replace the detached muskets with later tercios.

Eventually you can try to outflank through the marshes if you wish

You win by counter-attacking enemy breakthroughs and constant harrassment fire.

Good luck!

Hello All,

I think I got fairly lucky on this one, but I'll let you know how I did it anyway. Firstly, the woods where your Commanded shot are, I ensured I had 4 shot in those woods. Then when their horse on that flank moved forwards then you blast them. Your shot should win, and indeed I don't think my horse near the woods saw combat until they'd turned my other flank. I did have quite the losing/retreating on the other flank.

The big problem is the fortification. Hold for as long as possible, but this is where I got lucky. The enemy charged one of my shot, and my shot evaded. Then their unit moved forwards and had breached the fortifications, but when it was my turn the gunpowder exploded on the tile the enemy were on and took out one of their tercios. Then I just kept shooting their tercios and using melee when needed to stop them advancing. I think I also put some shot into the village near the marsh, then they evaded over the marsh, so they kept being effective, but my tercios were much weaker than theirs and my horse weren't very effective either.

A few tips:

- Place some of your detached muskets in the woods.
- On your left flank, keep your shooty cavalry back.

The purpose of this is to draw opposing down the road on our left flank. Once it happens fire at them from the fortifications and from the woods. Once you feel confident, bring up your horse to join in the barrage.

- Do not keep any detached musets in front of the fortifications.
- Instead, place them near the marsh and the village on your right.
- Again, might be wise to place some horsefarbehind your right flank.
- I'd reccomend placing artillery near the edge f your right flank, in the back so taht she can fire atunits approaching the village.

The issue is similar, invite the opposing force to try to flank your main line, then fire at them with everything you have once they try to go between the village and your right flank fortifications.

I won this on my first try, but perhaps Iwas lucky (my leftmost fort was the one that blew up.

I'd almost agree with Sabratha, but I think keep the shot on your fortifications firing on the enemy infantry, but yes, you need to shoot them constantly and use your horse well. Your pike are only useful as a distraction.
